Unsure about a job

I found a festive colleague position in Tesco and part of me wants to apply. But I kinda hate the idea it's not permanent, also because its shelf stocking, aren't the roll cages with goods really heavy?

My dad tells me to go for it, without telling my mum, but I'm so 50/50 about it, I don't want to disappoint my parents in still not getting a job but is it really a good opportunity. If it all goes wrong, then I'll be left upset again like last time.

Please give some advice. Thank you.

Hi @Unicorn7190

If you're in doubt about applying, the fact that it is a temporary/seasonal position could work in your favor. You'd be able to try the role out and if you weren't the biggest fan, it would just be a temporary position and you will have earned some money over Christmas.

I've known friends who have had seasonal job roles and have been able to stay at the company afterwards. Obviously there's no guarantee you would also have that opportunity - but you also could. It could be worth applying and asking that sort of question in the application process to see if it's a possibility at that particular store.

You can always apply and later withdraw your application if you change your mind too. I've never worked in that specific role myself, but I know retail/shop work can be quite physical and on your feet quite a bit. I like to see my retail job as an extra way to get some steps in, which is a love-hate idea for some, but you might like that aspect.

I would say go for it! And like I said, if you change your mind, you can always turn down the position. Even having an interview could help you to ask any questions about potential concerns, which may help you feel differently about the role.

All the best. 🙂

I got taken on for a Christmas contract last year and given a permanent contract at the end.

I dunno about the cages being 'really' heavy, buts it's always going to a physical job.

I would go for it.

If I was you I would certainly apply for the job in Tesco.
Although it's might be a temporary contract at the beginning there's a big opportunity for you to be given a permanent contract at the end of your temporary contract.

All you need to do for a permanent contract is make sure you are always on time, not taking sick time of , getting on well with your fellow colleagues you work beside, do as you told in whatever job needed doing, don't get yourself in any bother with anyone..... Then at least you have a good chance to get a permanent job when you have a meeting with the manager around a week prior to your temporary contract ending for a work review and then they should offer you the job permanently.

Team leader and stand in supervisor as required with Tesco.

Although you got declined there's nothing stopping you applying for other vacancies with them.
