Graphic design 2025

Hi!
I’m planning on applying for graphic design undergraduate this year and feeling very confused about portfolios as I can’t find any accepted portfolios or guidance. My current top two choices are Edinburgh college of art and Manchester met, any guidance would be appreciated!!

Can i ask what drew you towards Edinburgh College of Art? It seems to be an extremely popular choice at the moment.

I'm applying for Edinburgh for graphic design this year too! If you go onto their website they have a page that tells you about the assessment criteria and it's got specific guidance for each course, the link is here Edinburgh Portfolio Guidance

That’s so amazing! I saw your comment in another thread asking for portfolio examples did you ever manage to find any? I am currently finding it such a struggle. Also which UAL did you apply for I am currently inbetween Camberwell graphics and LCC graphics and branding but unsure as u couldn’t visit them.

Thank you! I chose to apply to Camberwell! I managed to find one on tiktok that was accepted at loughborough i think, other than that I just based mine off of the portfolio advice on all my chosen uni's websites, i included a few big projects and some smaller ones/odd bits 🙂

I’m also struggling too. I have lots of work but I have no idea how to put it in a portfolio. Did you manage to find any examples

University's always like to see your ideas and concepts prior to the final submission 👍

For my portfolios I did like a big range of personal passion projects. I had a mix of pages that were either just my final designs, just sketches and drawing and then a good few where I showed the journey from initial ideas to final design. I've been accepted into 4 unis but have yet to hear back from Edinburgh, but unis like to see your ideas and development, not just your polished work, for Edinburgh check their website as they assess based on 4 different points, so I built my portfolio around those themes! https://www.eca.ed.ac.uk/undergraduate-portfolio-guidance
