The Student Room Group

Student Finance still haven’t paid.

I’m not asking this for myself, but for my flatmate as it does concern me with regards to our living situation.

He applied for his loan somewhat late, the 3rd week of August i believe. This is because it was a Postgraduate loan and he wasnt sure whether he was going to uni, as he had only been accepted a couple days before he applied.

However SFE have since promised 3 separate dates, coming up on the 4th, when he will ‘receive his loan’ only for it to get delayed AGAIN. Its causing him, and by extension the rest of our flat, undue stress as he’s had to repeatedly borrow money in order to make rent.

Now I’ve got some burning questions:
1. Is this something that happens regularly?
2. If so, how can he make a proper complaint?
3. Will SFE actually pay him on the next date, which is at the end of November?
4. Can he get kicked out of Uni for ‘not paying’ despite it being entirely due to SFE making “administrative errors” 3 times in a row? Probably the most important question, because this shouldn’t be the reason behind his education being cut short.

Safe to say I’m not happy with the situation and would appreciate anyone that can help me understand what on earth is happening behind the scenes.

Hi there,

Timescales are always estimates and these can change on a day to day basis depending on the assessing workflows. Can you confirm if his application is approved? If not, what was the date he was last advised for the application updating? Thanks, Jason

Hi, thanks for the reply.

He says:
‘I was told at the start of October my application was 'provisionally approved', the first date I was given for my entitlement letter was 26th September, then I called and it had changed to 16th October, then I called and it changed to 7th November, called and it changed to 15th November, now it's 25th November’

its not approved yet, apparently its still processing. AFAIK he was last in touch on Friday (15th)

i understand the fluid nature of these deadlines of course, its just frustrating when his education appears on the line, hopefully thats understandable.

I know he has been told its to do with his birth certificate, as he lacks much else in regards to ID. Was there a problem with those?

Thanks. We'd need to access his account to check this and keep him updated. Timescales are always estimates so I would advise him to monitor his account around the 25th of November. Hopefully the timescale doesn't change and it's updated on this date. Thanks, Jason
