Looking for advice regarding my university choices (IB grad pursuing a History BA)

Hi all, hope you're well ✌️

I intend to submit my UCAS applications in 2025 for a prospective enrolment in 2026, and I'm considering applying to the following five universities and their respective courses: Bristol University (History BA), King’s College London (History and International Relations BA), Warwick University (History and Politics BA), Exeter University (History and Politics BA) and Sheffield University (History and Politics BA).

I graduated with an IB diploma, scoring a 36/45. The courses at Bristol, KCL & Warwick have an entry requirement of 36/45 and the courses at Exeter & Sheffield have an entry requirement of 34/45. Considering that I just barely satisfy the entry requirements for Bristol, KCL and Warwick, would it be risky for me to apply to all three? I don't have much in terms of extracurriculars or supercurriculars.

Thanks for reading! Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello there,

Firstly, congrats on graduating from your IB - its a challenging programme and you have done very well to achieve that grade!

In general, we advise to apply to one or two aspirational choice unis with grades pitched perhaps above your predicted grades (in your case, you have already got yours), 2-3 realistic choices with requirements pitched at the same level, and one insurance uni with requirements a little below what you are predicted.

However in your case, you already have met the required grades, and so I do not think there is a problem with your 5 choices. As long as you have met any specific subject requirements and put in a strong personal statement you have as much chance as any other IB student in your position of receiving offers. If in doubt, call up the admissions teams of those unis and ask if they would consider you with your score. I'm sure they will be able to give you more specific advice.

I hope this helps, best of luck

An alternative way of thinking about this, is why would they all reject you? You have proven qualifications that meet the requirements of 3 unis and exceed those at 2 others.

Assuming that you meet any specified HL requirements, these choices are fine.
History is not a vey competitive subject, and you have sensibly chosen 2 courses with a points score below your achieved grades, so should be all okay.
