Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with your first assignment grade. Just know that 58% is a 2:2 which is still a great grade for a first assignment!
It can be challenging at first to make the jump from whichever path you took after secondary school to university. A lot of people take some time to find their feet, which is very normal, so it is often that the first few grades don't reflect your full abilities. I remember I struggled with my first few assignments, but I made sure to make the most of the feedback and really work on it!
Despite this, it is great to hear that this gives you the motivation to work even harder for your next assignment! That is what is important. Make sure you are reflecting on the feedback you were given, and don't hesitate to contact your lecturers if you feel you need extra guidance - that is what they are there for.
I hope this helps and best of luck with your next assignments!

Hi there,
Believe it or not, my very first assignment in first year was marked as 58% too! As Chester have said, this is not a bad grade and only a small way off a 2:1. The most important things is that you understand your feedback and what you can do next time to make improvements - it may not only be working harder, just wording things differently or writing in a slightly different way. If you're unsure - ask your lecturers, its what they're there for.
I would not worry about this at all. I understand completely how you would feel disappointed, but please try to give yourself some credit. Besides, its your first assignment of your first year in a whole new study environment, no one will expect you to do perfectly, and you have bags of time to work on your technique 🙂

Hi there,
I also agree with what others have said - it's your first assignment so getting a 2:2 is a good grade for your first ever assignment at uni! It took me a while to adjust to the writing style and getting everything that I needed to into my work, and you will learn over time what you need to include and how to structure and write your work, so try not to worry too much and just see this as a learning opportunity!
It would be a good idea to talk to your tutors about this and see if they can help you with what you need to improve on so that you can do better in your next assignment. They may be able to go though your assignment with you and highlight what you need to do next time in order to improve which would be very helpful. Or, you might have received feedback on your work which is extensive and helpful so make sure you go through this.
I would also have a look at which areas you struggled in and see if your library has any skills sessions surrounding these areas. e.g. if you struggled with your referencing, there may be a session in the library about this and they can help you with this as this is quite a new skill for university.
When you have your next assignment, try and use the feedback you have got from this work and see if you can incorporate this into your work so yo can improve on these parts. This should help you to get a better grade as you have improved on the things you did not do as well on this time around. It's also a good idea to talk to your tutors about your work as you are doing it and get them to go through it with you and read it before you give it in so you know it is as good as possible and you are hitting the brief.
Well done on handing in your first assignment! The step up to Uni is a big one, so you should be proud of yourself no matter your grade.
I would keep in mind that first-year grades either don't count at all towards your final degree grade, or only a small percentage of your overall first-year grade does (depending on what UNi you go to) - so this will most likely not affect your final degree grade! The first year is meant to get people up to speed with content, writing methods, and how to balance uni work and real work/social life etc.
I would ask for a meeting, either with your personal tutor or the module leader for this assignment and ask them to go through your assignment and help show you what to improve next time, as you can only get better with practice.
Please don't let this worry you too much! Everything will be okay in the end

Hi Anom,
I'm sorry you seem disappointed in your grade! However, I recommend viewing it as an excellent chance to receive feedback and improve. Many people will struggle with their first assignments as your adjusting to new guidelines, a new environment and different expectations. 📑
Personally, I also wanted to improve after my first assignment. Based on my experience, I recommend looking through your feedback and see exactly where you can improve. Also don't be afraid to contact your tutor if you have any questions about your feedback. For your next assignment, I recommend looking through the markingcriteria/rubric if possible, so you can ensure your assignment is exactly what is required.
I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions, 😊 -Sophia (Business and Management)

Hi there, Thank you for sharing your experience it’s great that you’re motivated to work harder for your next assignment. A 58% is a solid starting point, especially for your first ever assignment! Many students find the transition to university-level assessments challenging, so you’re not alone. I remember my first assignment my result was lower than I expected too, but it was a valuable learning experience. It helped me understand the expectations and refine my approach to research, structuring, and referencing. Use this opportunity to review your feedback carefully and identify areas for improvement. If you’re unsure about anything, don’t hesitate to reach out to your tutors or academic skills workshops. You’re on the right track, keep going! 😊

Hi!
My advice would be to not take this to heart, your first assignment is you getting used to university level work and writing style/content. If you are worried at all I recommend speaking to your lecturer or academic tutor and getting some clear feedback on how to improve.
