Midwifery interview

I’ve already received an offer from the University of Leeds but i’ve also applied to northumbria sunderland teesside and edinburgh napier. I’ve got an interview for both sunderland and northumbria and they are both group setting and group interviews, what can i expect from these interviews?

Hi!

Well done on securing those interviews!

Every university is different in how they interview applicants, but most will want to know your understanding of the course, the types of things you study, and where it leads, so have a look through the modules on the university websites you are applying to and think about your future aims and aspirations.

At Teesside, we ask our applicants some scenario based questions, so things like 'what would you do if you saw an older person confused and looking lost in the street?' These questions aren't linked to the course but get an idea of the type of person you are and how you would deal with that situation - they are normally looking for you to give examples of being caring, compassionate and able to communicate with people. Think about the type of skills and experience you have, and how you might be able to answer those types of questions - so what you would do, followed by an example of a time you needed to show those traits. Even if the unis you are applying to don't ask scenario based questions (lots do!), it's still a great way to remind yourself of examples you can give at interview.

It's always a good idea to have a re-read of your personal statement to familiarise yourself with what you included too.

Just remember, the interviewers are interested in you and want you to do well, so give them as much information as you can to help them make their decision!

Good luck!
Thanks 😃

Hi JLBeck_22,

Congratulations on all of your offers this year. You can learn more about what you can expect from your interview at The University Sunderland here:

https://www.sunderland.ac.uk/student-experience/explore/health-sciences-wellbeing/online-interview-preparation-healthcare/

Depending on when your interview date falls, you might consider coming to our upcoming NHS Professions Open Evening in March - if you've not been to one already. You'll get the chance to discuss your plans with people from the course and take a look around our learning spaces. You can book a place here:

https://www.sunderland.ac.uk/open-days/nhs-professions-mar-2025/

You can also learn more about what it's like to study in Sunderland by using our Virtual Experience portal - https://experience.sunderland.ac.uk/

Have a look and if there is anything else you're unsure about, just let me know.

Best of luck with your plans,

Steve
