I have been diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety since 2020 and recently learned about Personal Independence Payment (PIP). I would like to ask a few questions about the application process and clarify the evidence I plan to provide to support my claim.
Evidence I Plan to Provide:
1. Time Out from University:
I have taken three years out of university due to my mental health (currently on the third one). I plan to supply evidence of this by providing correspondence from my university confirming the time I took out.
2. GP Letters:
These include letters I requested from my GP to provide evidence to my university for taking time out due to my mental health condition.
3. DSA Eligibility:
Last year, I was eligible for and granted Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) while I was at university. I will include this evidence in my application.
4. Doctor’s Notes:
I have notes from visits to my GP when my mental health severely flared up.
5. Evidence of Medication:
I will provide proof of the prescribed medication I have been taking to manage my condition.
How My Mental Health Affects My Day-to-Day Life:
My mental health has severely impacted my ability to carry out daily tasks:
• I spend most of my time in bed due to lack of energy and extreme low mood.
• I cannot cook for myself, which leads to missed meals or reliance on others.
• My motivation is very low, and I struggle to get any work or tasks done.
• I frequently forget to take my medication, which worsens my symptoms.
Regarding Employment:
I am about to start a part-time job to force myself into some structure and help my mental health. However, I have not signed the contract yet, and my start date is tomorrow (Tuesday). Since I will be submitting my application today, I assume I can truthfully say I am not currently working. I have read cases where people were rejected for having part-time or full-time work, so I want to ensure my application is not unfairly affected.
Additional Question:
Is there any further information or detail I should include in my application to strengthen it? I want to make sure I am as thorough as possible, as my mental health has severely impacted my life, and I need this financial support to help manage my condition.
