Despite all the exciting times you’ll have here at Kingston, the main role of university is to prep you to get you where you want to be post graduation! Post grad roles can be super intimidating but also a really exciting way to start the next chapter of your life! I thought it could be good to discuss some tips for when the time for applications comes!
Be Specific! - For those of you who have had jobs up to this point just for an extra bit of cash then you might be used to applying to jobs on indeed with the same CV. And whilst there’s nothing wrong with this, when you get to applying to grad roles making your application specific to the role you want is key. Tweaking your CV to make sure your experience is relevant and doing the same with your cover letter is super important! If you are after some advice with this then definitely pop into the careers service at Penryhn so they can give you some advice.
Research- A bit like the previous tip, specific research on the role/ company you want to work for is important. Not only will it give you an advantage when it comes to things like interviews, but it will also allow you to be certain that the job you’re going for is definitely for you. It’s just as important that the job benefits you as much as you benefit the company!
Have multiple options- Whilst it can be super tempting to get caught up on your dream job, having multiple options when it comes to applying to grad roles is definitely the way forward! It’s most likely that the field you’re going into will be competitive and so getting your foot in the door even if it’s not your dream role is such a win! It may even lead you to a job that you didn’t know you really wanted! And if not don’t worry because there is time for you to work your way up the ladder!
