EPQ and dance

I want to study dance and musical theatre after year 13 and I thought doing my EPQ on something dance related would help me later on when applying to uni. I thought of going down the artifact route and performing a dance as the artifact I just don't know what specific subject to focus on. I was thinking maybe something to do with the history of dance or how social trends are shown through dance, but how would I put that into a performance?

It;s a great topic of focus for your EPQ ! Using social trends to examine dance is a great start. When it comes to performance-based projects, there are many ways ways you could interpret 'artifact'.
You can craft a dance work that travels through historical periods, each showcasing the dance forms associated with that time and showing how the key social trends of that era shaped its dance styles (ie. Charleston, Rock 'n' Roll, groove, disco ...).

Another method could be to select one themse like freedom and explain how different dance forms express this.

Another option is documentary style: your performance could have video clips to explain not only the social trends that inspired the dances you're performing and also give context . You can do it on your own or with friends.

In the written EPQ, you can explore the styles of dance , converse with the social currents of the time, and analyze how these were reflected in the dance movements. For the written part you can use Tilf website to check what to improve on the essay.
