University of Edinburgh 2025-26 Postgraduate Applicants

Hi - anyone else applying to UoE for a September start? It's pretty early... but I've known I wanted to apply since right before the 2024-25 deadline ha.

Wondering if I should expect to hear anything before the first deadline in Jan, or if they review any sooner?

I applied for MSc Ancient Worlds (Archaeology and Classics) distance learning at UoE for a September 2025 start.

I applied on 5th October, and received a conditional offer on 31st October.

Oh wow that's swift - congrats. That one doesn't have rounds of offers like mine so maybe that's the difference... how long did it take the status of your application to change, I know it goes through a few before an offer is made.

It was stuck on the initial status for the longest time (something like "new application"), and then if my memory serves it changed maybe a week or so before my offer to something like "processing" (or words to that effect), and then changed again the day before my offer to something along the lines of "ready for a decision".
And then bam, next day I got my offer.

I forget the exact wording of the statuses but you get the gist.

Got it, thanks for that - makes me hopeful I could hear sooner than next year ha. Appreciate the details and yes totally get the gist of the statuses!

Just got what I assume is an automated email informing me they have received my application, I applied 7th Nov. I saw the email and was like 😲 what could it be! Teasing.

Hi there,

I applied right around the opening for postgrad applications in the first week of October. I read some threads, here and elsewhere, which led me to expect contact from them in spring. I received an offer for MSc Global Mental Health last week 🙂

I think early application and popularity of the course are both significant factors in how prompt a response is received, but that is just my opinion, not factual.

Does the date count from when you submitted or when the references are in?

Not 100% sure what you mean but this is from their course pages: Please note that for an application to be reviewed, it must be a complete application by the application deadline with all supporting documentation uploaded, including references and transcripts.

Anyone seeing updates come through? Mine has been 'processing' for about a month. Granted the holidays were about half of that!

Same situation waiting for what feels like forever. Is the university open or still on holiday?

Back as of Friday 3rd but I think classes are only starting today. The deadline for mine is today as well, so might chase in a few days.

How long has it been for you? For me it's been around 6 weeks

Since Nov 7th. I think it's fair to not expect a response until after the first deadline but then I'm wondering why applications open so early in that case. Doesn't seem to have helped me in any way other than having it done!

Agreed it has only stressed me out, also wasn't today the deadline. I hope the places are given from now on till I think April

I applied on dec 17th for a Msc in Comp lit and got a conditional offer on dec 19th. My referee hadn't even turned in the rec. letter yet. Very insane.
This is my 2nd choice so if I don't get into my 1st, I'm happy to say I will be attending Edinburgh!!

I think then it depends on the school some work faster and some might wait till the deadline then start giving results.

Hi!! I've also applied for MSc on 15 Dec, still stuck on the "new application" status. I wonder if anyone applying to the School of Political Science has heard back?

Hi rhe1012,

I applied to the SPS on October 5th and about six weeks later had a status update.

Tbh, from what I had read on TSR and other forums I wasn’t expecting a response until the spring.
Absolutely heartbroken.

They just opened applications for 2025-2026 scholarships for my school, and although last year part-time masters offer holders were eligible to apply for a scholarship if they are expected to obtain a 1st in their undergrad degree, THIS year it says part time students cannot apply, it's only eligible for full time.

The masters I've applied for is ONLY available part time online. If you want to do it full time you have to be on campus, which I absolutely cannot do as I have a house and husband and kids here in Yorkshire.

Without the scholarship, the funding from SFE will be just under £5k short of the fees, which I can't afford.

Devastated is putting it mildly. I'm going to have to decline my place for September now and just... I dunno... look for a job or something.

I'm gonna be honest I'm in tears. I can't believe they changed the scholarship entry requirements like that.
