English or English and Spanish degree?

To cut it short:
I haven't seen many posts about English with a language so I would be very grateful if anyone who is studying or has studied a Joint Degree, in particular English and Modern Languages, could share with me their experience of studying English with a language and if it is worth doing a joint course instead of a single.

For context I am studying English lit and lang, Spanish and sociology for A-levels and want to study English or English and Spanish at Warwick or Lancaster.

I definitely want to study English at university as i love literature and have a passion for anything English. But i am unsure if i want to study Spanish too as i feel that language would be an added bonus and ive really enjoyed it as an A level, but i dont really want to work in Spain or another Spanish speaking country for all my life. I would like to go into a range of career paths like copywriting, bid-writing, admin, general occupations that ive seen mostly English graduates go into.

As this would be a joint honours I was wondering whether joint honours courses are in any way less respected than Single Honours Courses, and whether a English and Spanish degree would be less favoured by future employers, who perhaps would prefer somebody with a greater depth of knowledge in just one subject (English).

Furthermore, I have been made aware in the past that studying a Joint Honours Degree can be a disadvantage with timetabling and communication issues between the two faculties. I would be very grateful if anyone who is studying or has studied a Joint Degree, in particular English and Modern Languages, could share with me their experience of such problems and whether the issue is significant.

Thank you so much

Hello @BusyBeeReads

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately I am not an English and Modern Languages student at Lancaster, nor am I studying a Joint Honours. However, I would really encourage you to make use of our UniBuddy system on our website where you can speak to current students about their experience. I did already have a look and can only find one of our students Lizzie who studies French and Linguistics, but it might be useful if you speak to her about the questions above! You can speak to our students Here.

Please feel free to ask any other questions!

Taylor (Lancaster Uni Student Ambassador).
