I dropped out of the Aerospace engineering course at Swansea after a year and now I'm looking into potentially reapplying for universities for 2025.
I'm looking at game development courses and I'd like to know the pros and cons of studying at Bournemouth and Falmouth. While I was generally content with my life at Swansea last year, I mainly took issue with the course itself, which I found to be very theoretical and uninteresting. I prefer more hands on learning. Despite this I did my best to stick it out but I found my lecturers to be very unhelpful. 7/10 had very strong non-British accents which I often found difficult to understand, particularly when I was being taught quite complicated maths which I hadn't encountered before. This along with the class size being around 150+ made it difficult for me to communicate with lecturers, or seek them out for help outside lectures other than the occasional email. As a result I found myself mostly teaching myself the course content while working on assignments and I managed to pass all my modules besides the maths, at which point I decided it was no longer worth while. Another issue I had while at Swansea was that I both lived and studied on the bay campus, which was outside of town and required a bus journey to get into town or the other campus. Bay campus was a ghost town outside of lecture hours with hardly any events taking place, I therefore found it impossible to get involved with societies which were all based at the other campus.
These are all issues that I wish to avoid repeating if I start at another uni.
