My friend needs help choosing a levels please

My friend doesn’t have this app so I will be sending any responses to her.

Hi this is the friend typing. I am stuck between choosing psychology, history, politics, and English lit/lang (together).

I definitely want to choose psychology but I’m stuck between the other three. What are the pros and cons of politics, english lang/lit and history and what combinations of three (including psychology) would be best?

I don’t know what job I want but I love all of these subjects. I don’t want to take four because I think it will be too much.

Thank you for any help
Do you have any plans on going to university and if so what sort of courses would you want to do?

I’m not sure what I want to do but I’m considering taking psychology and then specializing in one of the other 3 later on.

I don't know it really isn't my area of expertise, especially as she doesn't know what she wants to do at uni. I think she will need to consider what subjects she will do well in and what subjects she enjoys and try and strike a balance between the two.
hi! i take english lit, politics, history and spanish at a-level. i don’t take psychology, however i know a lot of people in my politics class take psychology and love studying both subjects, so it seems to be a good mixture. in terms of history, it’s an enjoyable subject but has a veryy demanding workload as it’s so content-heavy. not sure about how english lit and lang mixed works - that may also be quite intensive. i would suggest researching uni courses you may be interested in and working backwards from there, as if it is the case that you want to do something psychology-related, that may be the only required subject. at the end of the day, it’s best to pick the subjects you enjoy the most!!
Hi!

If you're thinking about going to university after A Levels, open days could be super helpful! Even if you're not sure yet what you want to study, you can attend a few seminars that catch your interest and get a sense of the different courses available. It's also a great opportunity to find out what the entry requirements are and what A Levels might be more beneficial. Plus, you'll be able to chat with course reps and current students, who can share their experiences and tell you about what they studied.

Hope this helps!

I take history and love it. It can depend on what courses you do within history. For example my school does empire and modern America with aqa, but some will have Tudors or Cold War.

Definitely a lot of memorisation and writing but things like missing a lesson don’t matter as much as everything is available online

You will need hundreds of flash cards, but if you find history interesting it’s great fun to revise 👍🏻👍🏻

My friends all take history and there is soo much content to cover and revise which they struggle with, it’s definitely their priority subject. I’m pretty sure politics doesn’t have coursework both the others do if that’s something you want to consider. I’m biased coz I take English literature but the a level texts on course are really good.
I took politics and English Lit. These subjects compliment each other well because you learn a lot about the world around but from a creative (eng lit) and practical (politics) approach. I feel like putting these two with psychology would be cool so you get loads of perspective on things.

I loved GCSE history but dropped it after a few months (I started on 4 alevels) because there was soooo much work and the essays were quite different from GCSE. Also the topics we studied were no where near as interesting (personal preference though)

If you want to do a heavier/classic degree at Uni like Law, you’ll be better with history and English than politics or psychology.

My advice would be to choose what you enjoy though because it’s a lot of effort if you do something you don’t like.

Hope this helps x
