What unis can I get into with CCE A-levels

I’m currently in a bit of a dilemma. I have an unconditional offer from Oxford Brookes University, which is a well-regarded business school, but I’m unsure if it’s the right fit for me. I’ve applied to Brookes because of its strong business program, and I’m aware it ranks highly (with its MBA program ranked 15th globally), but I’ve never been to Oxford before, and I’m from the North, so I’m not sure if I’d feel comfortable there.

Here’s a bit about my grades and experience:
A-levels: C in Psychology, C in Econ, E in Biology, and I received a B in my EPQ.
GCSEs: Grades 8-6 with one 5 in French.
Work Experience: I’ve done several work experience placements, including with HSBC in finance, as well as other roles in finance and even film (since I originally considered journalism as a career).

I’m particularly interested in business and management courses, but I’m open to anything related to business. I would prefer universities in the South, but I’m willing to consider options elsewhere.

Are there any universities, including Russell Group ones, that might consider me for a business or related course, even with my current grades and offer from Brookes? I’m open to a foundation or contextual course if needed. Any advice or recommendations would be really appreciated!”
Thanks

Hello @hello!!!066

It's great to hear you have applied to the university.

I am currently studying at the University of Reading, which is a 20-minute train ride from Oxford Brookes. I have friends who study there, and they always talk very highly of it. I believe it is a great university.

Deciding on a university can be tricky, but if you decide what you want out of a university, this will make narrowing down your options slightly easier. I will list a few things that helped me decide my university:

Location - do you want to be close to home or near a city, or beach etc..

University size- would you prefer a smaller, close-knit community university or a larger campus university.

Course cohort size

university facilities - e.g. gym, swimming pool, restaurants.

accommodation prices - e.g., the south will be more expensive than the north and midlands.

Night life

society, and sports clubs

At the Univerity of Reading, there is the Henley Business School, which is ranked 26th in the UK
for the overall subject in ‘Accounting and Finance’ (Guardian University Guide 2025) and 21st in the UK
for the overall subject in ‘Business, and Management’ (Guardian University Guide 2025).

There is a full list of the undergraduate, courses from the Heneley business school, including BA Accounting and Business The Flying Start Degree Programme, BSc Business and Management, BSc Business and Management (Entrepreneurship and Innovation) with Placement Year, BSc International Business and Management, BSc Business and Management with Foundation and many more options.

The University of Reading makes contextual offers for all the courses. This means that The University of Reading makes a range of offers to best fit each individual applicant's needs as they understand each student has different circumstances and experiences. However, this does not mean every person will receive an offer; it means each application is carefully considered.

When you look at the courses in the online course listings, you will see the typical offer (for example, ABB or IB 32 points). You will receive the typical offer unless you have an additional EPQ qualification or qualify for a contextualised offer. The programme you are interested in might also have subject-specific or other requirements, which are displayed alongside the typical offer grades. More information for this can seen here.

I highly recommend you talk to our unibuddy ambassador, Olivia, as she is a BSc Business and Management student and can answer any course-related questions. You can contact Olivia here via the unibuddy scheme.

Some other great universities I have heard of for business in the south of England include BSc Business Degrees | Anglia Ruskin University, Southampton Business School, Kingston University | Study Business and Management and Warwick Business School.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions and that you find the best university.

If you have any questions, please let us know; we will gladly help.

All the best,
Ella 😀

Brookes is great smaller Uni - with students from all over the country.
Its not 'Oxford' at all, very normal, has a great village feel and not at all posh!

Hi hello!!!066,

Congratulations on your unconditional offer to study at Oxford Brookes! 🎉

As a student at Oxford Brookes for five years, I can share insights into the university, the Business School, and life in Oxford and Headington. Having family up north (mainly in Accrington and Newcastle) I'll talk about some differences between the regions that may be worth considering.

Cost of Living: The South of England is generally more expensive, particularly for accommodation and eating out.

Community Feel: The North often has a stronger community atmosphere, where it feels like everyone knows each other. While Oxford may feel less close-knit, the university community at Brookes makes a big difference. With over 85 societies, regular campus events, and a cosmopolitan student population, you'll feel part of a vibrant community. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt connected because of the strong student network.

Location Benefits: Oxford strikes a balance between the North and London. It offers slightly better weather, great nightlife, excellent public transport, and access to museums and historical sites, without the high population density, expenses, or tourist crowds of London. Being in the Loxbridge Triangle also provides fantastic networking opportunities with globally renowned companies with offices/locations in the Southeast.

Oxford Brookes Business School
The Business School at Oxford Brookes is highly regarded for its innovative teaching and strong industry links, so your unconditional offer is a great opportunity to gain a degree from a respected Business School. The Business School supports students through initiatives like Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, the Scale-Up Network, and the Business Society, all of which encourage collaboration and growth. In terms of rankings, Oxford Brookes is recognised among the world’s elite universities in various subjects, and the Business School is renowned for its quality education and impactful research.

Final Thoughts
Choosing the right university is a big decision. It’s important to think about course content, campus environment, location, and the support services available. Given your grades and work experience, you have several options, and Oxford Brookes stands out for its supportive learning environment, high teaching quality, focus on employability and dynamic business programmes.

I recommend attending open days to get a feel for each university you consider. The next Open Day at Oxford Brookes is on February 15th, and more information can be found here.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Wishing you the best in your university journey!
