SQA highers

It’s coming around to prelim time soon for me, my prelims are end of January. I feel like my world is coming crashing down I’m struggling so much with highers and I’m super worried and I have no idea what to do or any guidance. When should I start, where do I begin? I’m finding it all so hard. please can anyone help and give me some satisfaction that I will be okay and they experienced the same as me???

Firstly, don't stress. End of January is roughly 3 months away - more than enough time for you to get started on studying. What are you worried/confused about? Is it just the difficulty of the subjects you take or what you want to do later on? What subjects do you take?

I’m doing bad in all my class tests, they keep throwing them all at once and I’m struggling balancing them all which is making me feel so so so so overwhelmed, I’m finding most subjects reasonably hard particularly chemistry. The subjects I take are higher human, higher maths, higher English and higher business idk what to do. I really want 5As but it’s looking impossible right now

I do 4 of the same subjects as you - firstly, revise everyday. the workload piles up, until you feel overburdened. so take a few days, create a study timetable, and do a few topics each day. for the maths and sciences - scholar is invaluable, great resource. ask if you can borrow textbooks/practice questions books from school and do them regularly. practice is key, and to summarise, make mindmaps and notes. I relate to the throwing tests all at once - I've had 4 tests for 4/5 subjects which is insane, but also gives you a snapshot of what the prelim will be like. don't skip the tests - try your best in them, get feedback - go to supported studies (ask for extra help from teachers) you probably have a great support system in school - use it! and tell your pastoral care that you are struggling - they can definitely help!

When u said study everyday, do u mean as in study stuff previous stuff or study everyday for class tests. I have been studying everyday not one day I’ve came from school and have had time to just sit back and relax apart from Fridays (break day🙈). I have been studying a lot for the class tests I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong and why it isn’t paying off

Study for both class tests and previous information - and if you are still getting bad on tests, it is because your study methods aren't working for you. Are you a more visual learner (mindmaps, notes) or kinaesthetic (movement, sound)? Do you study better with flashcards and spaced repetition? Figure your go-to study method out, and then it will be much easier for you to learn/keep information in your head. And don't do past papers/practice questions until you fully understand the topics you study
