The most common reasons for them temporarily restricting your account are:
1. Too many connection requests.
2. Low acceptance rate.
3. Too many "I don’t know this person" on your invitations.
4. Using dangerous LinkedIn automation tools.
5. Inappropriate, illegal, or spammy activity coming from the account.

If you opt to do nothing, then that's precisely what will happen - nothing. The temporary restriction will not be magically lifted if you ignore it. If they're asking for an identity check (which it sounds like they are), then that's what you'll need to do.

That involves using your passport, driving license, or similar to prove your identity (to confirm you're not a bot). A human being will then review the activity in your account as the temporary restriction will have been automated, so may have been applied in error.

thank you! tho im really not sure which of these I have been doing
in terms of privacy, it will be okay to send in a passport pic right? will they get rid of the image afterwards?

I suggest you take a look at this page on the LinkedIn site, which explains how to verify your id.

They use a third-party company, Persona, to do this. Although Persona do pass the image to LinkedIn, all the details except your full name and the photo itself are removed. (So LinkedIn don't get your passport number or similar details.) And they delete the data after 14 days anyway.

It all seems above board to me, but you can never be 100% sure with this kind of thing.

I'd imagine so, yes. It'll just stay in its "restricted" state until you need it.
