University College
I wouldn't expect interview invites for chemistry to come out just yet.

I made a total of two applications (once for 2022 entry and was rejected post-interview, then again for 2023 entry and was accepted) and the respective dates when I got my interview invites were November 23rd of the respective years, but given how much advance notice they like to give you and how late Michaelmas term started this year (it was 5 days late), I would guess it is more likely you will have interview invites / pre-interview rejections sent out on the 28th (or give or take a few working days).

If you have any questions about Oxford chemistry or St John's college (where I ended up after being given an open offer), please feel free to ask.

Thank you. Any lessons learned on the interview over 2022/2023 would be welcome

My biggest takeaway was that the first time round, my preparation was pretty inadequate. I definitely wasn’t as comfortable with “thinking out loud” as I should have been and hadn’t adequately familiarised myself with Miro, which was a big mistake. The result was interviews that started off alright, a mistake was made, I floundered trying to fix the mistakes and I got nowhere.

The second time round, however, I made sure to teach others concepts from A level chemistry. I also attempted RSC chemistry olympiad round 1 problems so as to get better with problem-solving. These both helped massively. I would say my answers were better articulated from having more practice discussing chemistry more routinely with less confident classmates and practice with problem solving helped both my ability to fix my mistakes more seamlessly and to get through the problems at a faster rate.

I think also I would really strongly recommend talking to the IT department at your sixth form / college to see what they have, if you can borrow equipment and if you can get help setting up things like a Miro account. Please do this ASAP and make use of google where the IT people can’t help you.
Checking in if any new invites received?
Whilst you are all waiting for interview invites, I would suggest getting some interview practice just in case. You can do this using AS/A level past papers for chemistry and maths, RSC chemistry olympiad questions and some questions I wrote a while back (thanks for reminding me about them @Syrup380)

The questions I wrote a while back can be found here: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7418525#post98936706

Yes but not to the college I applied to
I saw someone received Worcester today but I also applied to them but have not received anything yet...
Any tips for the mathematics they require in the interview? I’ve just been told to sketch graphs but which ones?

I'd probably focus on calculus and any graph sketching covered in ordinary A level maths (both AS and A2). I could see logs coming up (e.g in a question where they get you to derive something like the Henderson-Hasslebalch equation as a test of your algebra), but I don't think it's too likely they'd give you a logs question.

Thank you for your reply. Is there anything else you would recommend doing in the week before interview to prepare?

My tutor for the interview specialises in biochem and as I don’t take biology I’m worried he’ll take questions in a direction I can’t understand… any advice?

Other than mock interviews, having conversations about chemistry and having a go at selected questions from AS/A level maths and RSC olympiad round 1 past papers, probably not a lot. There is such thing as over preparing after all

It’s unlikely they’ll throw their specific area of research into the interview. Don’t worry - ancedotally I can tell you that in none of the 7 total interviews I had did the interviewers ask about anything in the specific areas they research.

As unlikely as it is to come up, I think a nice exercise for you to run through (in case they do decide to assess logs) would be proving that if you dilute an aqueous solution containing just a weak monoprotic acid with water such that it’s concentration is 1/10 of what it was before, the pH should roughly increase by 0.5.

I wrote a full solution to this problem a while back in case you get stuck.
