Durham college allocation

Hi, I got my offer for the MEng engineering course a few days ago, I went to visit Durham a while ago, I'm particularly interested in Castle College, as it has both catered and self-catered options.
Do you know how hard is to get into Castle, and when you have to rank the colleges so they ask for any preferences you might have and take them into consideration (for example, EnSuite, Single sex, catered and/or self catered etc..).

Thanks

University/Castle is consistently the most oversubscribed college, and most people who put it down as one of their choices won't get in. Worth a try if you really want it, but also be aware that even if you do get in, some of their accommodation is not in the castle itself.

When you're choosing accommodation, you put down a choice of 3 colleges, and they try to allocate you to one of them although it's not guaranteed. More specific preferences like room type can be sorted at college level once you've been allocated a college. If you have a reason why you need a certain type of accommodation, you can tell them at the outset, but otherwise nothing is really a guarantee. It's worth thinking of what your highest priority is and choosing three colleges that offer it (like catering or proximity to your department).

Hello!

Castle is the most popular college in Durham; the Palatinate - our Student Newspaper - reported that 4410 students had Castle as their first choice, which is about a thousand more than Collingwood, the second highest! Therefore it is quite competitive to get into castle but if Castle is the college of your dreams, definitely do make it your first choice!

As far as I am aware, Castle only has ensuite and self-catered options for Postgraduate students (I'd recommend checking out their page on this here. The university should also contact you soon about ranking your colleges (if they have not already!)

I hope you do get into Castle, but if you get into another college, fret not! Everyone ends up loving their college anyways (especially us here at John Snow!)

Hope this helps!
