SFE Special Support Loan - What is this?

So, I am an estranged student who also receives max PIP amount, with the maximum maintenance loan of £10,227.00 and due to my PIP, I was also told I am eligible for the Special Support Loan.

I tried researching this and found nothing useful from Student Finance England or anything that is clear enough for my Autism.

Will the Special Support Loan become part of the amount of maintenance loan I get or will it add money to it (ie here I get 10k, does that stay the same or does that increase to say £13k (idk how much the Special Support Loan is))

Thanks to anyone who can clarify this, as I am confused about this.
Hi there,

Is this for the 2024/25 academic year? Did you apply for the Special Support Loan on your application? Did you provide us evidence of your PIP?

Thanks, Drew

Hiya, yes this is for this year. I was offered it recently and only just gave evidence, so I am awaiting outcome.
Hi there,

It is taking approximately 21 working days to process the evidence from the date it was received.

Thanks, Drew

Hi,
This was not my query, my query was simply, what is Special Support Loan?
Hi there. The Special Support Loan (SSL) is an element of the Maintenance Loan (ML). It's for students who are eligible to receive certain State Benefits.

If eligible, the ML will be made up of the Maintenance Element and the Special Support Element. It’s deemed non-taxable and is not considered as student income by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

It makes up part of the ML, it's not a separate payment. When you get your entitlement letter you will see it has a breakdown of how much the ML is and how much of this is the SSL.

E.g. ML entitlement = £10,000 of which £4327 of that is the SSL.

Thanks, Leah.
