Swansea, Cardiff Met or Brighton?

Hi All!!

I would like to pursue my Masters in Economics and Finance in 2025. However, I am stuck between the universities of Swansea, Cardiff Met and Brighton. I am not sure which one to choose. What is your experience and what would you advise? Thank you.

Hi @Naomi098

I'm a current student at the University of Brighton and though I'm not studying economics and finance I can tell you what life is like studying at Brighton!

The student experience at Brighton is great in my opinion. I find there's a good mix of timetabled sessions and expected independent learning. Lecturers are always available by email and also have pretty good office hours (the length of these does depend on the lecturer though) if you prefer talking face to face.

Living in Brighton is amazing as well! We are surrounded by some of the most beautiful nature, from the seafront only 15 mins away from campus to the South Downs if walking in nature instead of rocks is more your style 😂. We are also one of the sunniest campuses in the UK! We have lots of pubs and bars in the city as well as a massive library and lots of independent cafes and restaurants.

I've got some information about our Economics and Finance MSc
The course is taught in 3 semesters:

1.

the core subjects, of finance economics and research methods

2.

specialist modules in economics ad finance

3.

your dissertation

All modules on the course involve both taught sessions and guided independent study. For a typical module, approximately 30% of the total hours comprise taught activity, 10% is guided study and supervision, and the remainder is independent study.
If you chose to study here you get access to our Bloomberg trading room that utilises the Bloomberg Terminal. You also get the opportunity to work on case studies and talk to industry partners such as American Express and Legal & General as well as previous students from the uni!
We also have the option to do a year of work experience/ paid placement in industry.
The course is AACSB accredited. Currently fewer than 6% of schools have this accreditation so it seems like this is quite a big deal!

I hope this helps you make a choice! If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to answer them!

Hello there,

Thank you for considering Cardiff Met as one of your choices!

Cardiff Met located in a small and vibrant city of Cardiff. It is not too far away from the city centre and from the student accommodation. There are many buses to get to campus or you can walk to the campus if it is a nice day.

Our taught programme will be delivered throughout two terms and there are five compulsory modules and a list of optional modules for you to choose from. Hi there!

Great to hear you’re looking at doing a Master’s in Economics and Finance! 🎓 While I study Law, I can definitely speak to what makes Swansea a brilliant place to study.

Swansea is a welcoming, affordable student city with a real community feel. The campus has top-notch teaching spaces, on-site accommodation, cafés and strong industry links through events and placements.

It’s also a super safe place to live, ranking 7th safest overall city in the UK for students 🛡️, which is always reassuring when moving somewhere new.

Outside of lectures, there’s so much to get involved in—societies, sports clubs, career workshops, and networking events make it easy to meet people and build your future.

You can check out the MSc in Economics courses here:

There is an Open Day on 14 June, a great chance to explore the campus, meet staff and get a real feel for life at Swansea!

If you’ve got any questions about student life here, feel free to ask—I’m happy to help 😊
