What Uni is the best and does Art Foundation courses

I have seen some Universities that offer fine art that are supposedly 'the best out there'. But i can't find many good schools that peak my interest for Art. It is really important for me to do Fine art, but to be also able to use MANY different medias like clay or embroidery and not specialise in just that one, which is the reason i want to take a foundation course. I have talked to some uni's but they haven't really sold it to me. if anyone could recommend universities i would really appreciate it. And preferably not a school with overdramatic grade requirements, eg AAA, i'm not that smart.😂

I'd probably suggest considering the FAD course and the degree separately. Many FAD courses are run by 6th form colleges, not unis, and may be better than those based at unis...?

You can read more about FAD courses including a list (may not be up to date but a good starting place!) for FAD course offerings

I think typically though, since a FAD course is classed as an FE course and you don't get student loans for it (although also don't have to pay anything for it if you're under 19 at the start of the course I think), that most people just go to a FAD course that's near where they already live.
Yup, forget about Unis for now. Just do a foundation course at your local college. The staff there can advise you which Unis might be a good fit for you.
I agree with the above. Be careful because if you sign up for a foundation year at a university, this won't be a stand alone qualification and you'll be committed to that uni and unable to switch.
Doing a foundation diploma will allow you to explore your creativity.
Note for OP: NUA does not offer an Art and Design Foundation Diploma.

Hi @Larysa2008

I did the UAL FAD course locally, and then applied to a university. It was a great year and I got to try lots of different things. I also got to create some really good work for my portfolio. Its funded from a different pot of money than Undergraduate courses, and is usually free if you are under 19 at the start of it. You'll need to talk to your local college about that. They might also have a 2 year diploma option.

The Uni I'm at now also does the FAD course, and the 2 year diploma course, at our pre degree campus.

If you aren't able to find that type of course locally, take a look at going the Extended BA route. Its makes a 3 year Undergraduate BA (hons) course into a 4 year course, with an extension at the beginning that's similar to a foundation year. You can access undergrad student financing, so you can get a maintenance loan for leaving nearer to the Uni.

I hope that's helpful.

Hello,
I'm a student rep for UAL, a leading creative arts university that also offers foundation art courses. You have the option to choose between a specialist foundation if you are already decided on your art specialism, or a diagnostic foundation course where you have the opportunity to try multiple mediums until you are settled on your decision for your undergraduate course.

More information on this can be found on our UAL website.
