Exception list for HNC after a BA Hons Degree

Hi,

6 years ago I completed a 3 year undergraduate degree. However, I now work in a completely different industry and I’m looking to take a part time HNC in electrical engineering, hoping to get my tuition fees covered by SFE- but I already have a 3 year BA Hons degree that I’m currently repaying. Does anyone know if this is possible as I see that SFE have an exemption list for additional funding of part-time courses in Engineering.
The course would be at Trafford College, HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering for England (HTQ), course code TPP-HM4H-1200

Any advice on funding would be welcome. I rushed into my degree from school and now that I enjoy the career I’ve found. I would really like to take further study.

Thanks!

Hi there,

This course would not be classed as an exception course as it is not a part time honours degree and only a HNC.

Thanks, Drew

Hi thanks for getting back to me. What if I was to take the HNC and somehow pay for that. If I then decided to top up to a part time electrical engineering degree. Would the degree be covered by student finance?

Hi there. For part time study to qualify as an exception the course must be one of the following levels:

part time honours degree

joint honours degree

integrated masters degree.

And be one of the following subjects:

Medicine and Dentistry (CAH01)

Subjects to Allied Medicine (CAH02)

Biological and Sport Science (CAH03)

Psychology (CAH04)

Veterinary Sciences (CAH05)

Agriculture, Food and Related Sciences (CAH06)

Physical Sciences (CAH07)

Mathematical Sciences (CAH09)

Engineering and Technology (CAH10)

Computing (CAH11)

Geographical, Earth and Environmental Sciences (CAH26).

The 'CAH' are subject codes the course must contain. Thanks, Leah.
