subjects clash with career (ucas)

I’m in year 13 currently studying BTEC Heath and social scare , Sociology and Business.

My current predicteds are:
BTEC Health and social care - Distinction (A)
Business - C
Sociology - D (could be changing to a C)

I want to take on Paramedic Science at Nottingham Trent University but i’m worried that my subjects are not what the University is looking for… Any guidance please? Thanks 🙂

You say, "i’m worried that my subjects are not what the University is looking for".

On their Paramedic Science BSc (Hons) web page, here, Nottingham Trent say they're looking for "128 UCAS Tariff points from up to four qualifications, two of which must be A-Level equivalent including a health, science or social science subject." Your Health and Social Care BTEC is clearly a health subject, and you Sociology A level is a social science. So you tick that box.

You're perhaps a little more border-line on the grades. Yours are worth between 104 and 112 UCAS Tariff points, depending on what you get predicted for Sociology.

The grades i’m worried about aswell… I did research on UCAS and it said they have accepted grades as low as CDD i put in my predicted grades and on UCAS it said i have 90% acceptance rate. Does this mean for conditional offer?

When you say, "I did research on UCAS", can I confirm that you mean you used the "Historical entry grades data" on this UCAS page (the page for Paramedic Science at Nottingham Trent)? If so, then:

1. The data you're seeing is not for Paramedic Science specifically. If you look at the box in the top-left corner of that set of data, you'll notice it says, "This course and 11 other subjects allied to medicine courses". That, in my view, makes the data worthless are neither you or I know which other courses they've combined, nor what the relative difficulty of gaining an offer for those other courses might be.

2. The acceptance rate you're seeing (which looks to actually be 89%, based upon the grades you mentioned in the original post), is not across all applicants. This is explained if you follow their "learn more" link, where they say, "It reflects the proportion of students who held a firm offer (before 30 June) or an insurance offer (if not placed at their firm choice) and were accepted onto the course during the application cycle." So it's only for those candidates who, on results day, were holding an offer of some kind and Nottingham Trent needed to decide, "Should we accept this candidate, based upon the grades they've achieved?" Candidates who didn't receive an offer in the first place are therefore not included in this number.

Okay so there’s an update my sociology is going up to a C fortunately, and my personal statement is actually good especially coming from a background like mine. my last question is, is that do they really take your PS into consideration because i’ve been told very different

I don't know what Nottingham Trent do with personal statements I'm afraid.

I know that Exeter are on record as saying that they don't really use them. Their argument is that some people get a lot of help from parents or teachers, whilst others get none. So to use them in any significant way would simply be unfair to those who didn't receive help. However, they said they would refer to them in a tie-break situation to differentiate between two otherwise very similar candidates.

As I say, I don't know how much attention Nottingham Trent pay to them. Their web site suggests that they do refer to them, but I don't know the reality.

Bro u could defo get in with those grades. Have to say though you could stretch a little more and go to Oxford Brooke’s. They’ve got a very good business school and science department. I have a friend who does biochem there and it’s amazing apparently. Ntu is also good but Brooke’s is ranked higher for most of the subjects…
