Aberdeen scholarship raised to £8000 !!

I recently found out that the University of Aberdeen increasing scholarships starting from the September 2025 and January 2026 intakes. For those intakes, the Aberdeen Global Scholarship is being raised to £8,000!

As a January 2025 intake student, I’m only eligible for the £3,500 scholarship. This has made me feel quite unfairly treated, especially as an international student investing so much to pursue higher education abroad.

has anyone tried reaching out to the university to ask for clarification or even additional financial assistance? I’m writing to them but wonder if others feel the same way and if we could address this collectively.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Hi, this is the University of Aberdeen rep account. I'm sorry to hear you feel this way, and I can understand why. This is unfortunate for those who have studied previously but is always the case when funding get increased and would try to think about how it may benefit future students.
To confirm the facts, the Aberdeen Global Scholarship has indeed been standardised to £8,000 for all eligible candidates for the September 2025 intake. There is not additional financial assistance because of this for students starting in January, but you can find our financial guidance for international students here: https://www.abdn.ac.uk/study/postgraduate-taught/finance-funding-1599.php
If you would like to you can defer your offer to September and be eligible for the scholarship for that intake. For our Postgraduate Deferral Form please look here: https://www.abdn.ac.uk/study/postgraduate-taught/deferral-form-4009.php

Thank you for reading and I hope you are able to find significant funding for your chosen intake.

Thank you so much for your response, but I must express my deep disappointment regarding the current scholarship policy.

While I understand the intention to standardize the Aberdeen Global Scholarship for future students, I feel overlooked as a January 2025 intake student. January students are no less “future students” than those starting in September, and it feels unfair that we’re excluded from the increased scholarship benefits.

Suggesting that we defer to September is also not considerate. As you are likely aware, many of us in the January 2025 intake have already committed significant time, effort, and resources to this process. For many, visa applications have already been submitted, making deferral an impractical option.

Thank you.

I'm sorry for any disappointment caused or if there was anything insensitive about my previous message. I wasn't meaning to imply that the university doesn't value you as a future student, and I felt it was useful to make you aware of deferral but my apologies for it being inconsiderate. We provide this discount with the hopes that it will make people more able to access education at our university, and it's just the case that when the amount a scholarship provides increases there needs to be a point at which it takes effect. I'm sorry that this means you are a student of the intake before the increase and if you are having any issues with finding the funding to study with us please let us know.
