Finding the perfect study spot

Hi everyone! 😊

Finding the perfect study spot is essential to university due to the high volume of independent work. Here are some of the best spots on most campuses:

1) The library 📖 - This is where the majority of students will come for independent study. Due to restrictions on noise volume in a library, it's a great place to maintain your concentration on your work. You are also surrounded by books, which is very convenient for those research heavy assignments. The layout of a library can vary between universities, however some features your library may offer is a quiet/silent floor, a group work area and a PC lab.

2) Local café ☕️- A small café can set the perfect atmosphere to get some work done and you can reward yourself with a nice drink! It's also nice to have a change of scenery to study in and break out of unproductive routines. It's actually been deemed the "coffee shop effect", which is the idea that being in a café can boost productivity. However I wouldn't recommend this if your easily distracted by the smallest of noises!

3) Common spaces 🛋- Explore campus! Many buildings will have a common space, even your student centre. Studying in a common space can be an excellent choice as being around others who are also working can be quite motivating. Also, these are great places for group study. The seating is often a more comfortable style and there are power outlets available.

4) Study pods ✍️ - Most university provide study pods across campus. These are excellent as they minimise distractions and improve focus, therefore enhancing your productivity. Often I will pop in some earphones and completely zone in on my work within a study pod.

5) Outdoor communal areas 🌳 - On those warm days, studying outside is an excellent way to soak up the rays while also getting some work done. Look around your campus for courtyards with tables or areas you may be able to lay a blanket and sit down. This can be a nice change for a study location and being around nature can often reduce stress and improve your mood.

These are my top 5 locations and I would love to see any other suggestions!

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hi @Lewis382,

If your unsure that your university has study pods, you could explore your communal areas, such as your student centre, social spaces or library. Alternatively, you could ask student support if your university has any on campus. 😊
