difference between computer engineering and computer science

Will i enjoy computer engineering or will I enjoy computer science and why is the computer engineering entry requirements lower than computer science

It really depends on what interests you more. Computer Engineering is a mix of hardware and software, so if you like working with physical tech and how things work at a deeper level, it could be a good fit. On the other hand, Computer Science is more about coding, software, and algorithms great if you enjoy problem-solving and building software solutions.
As for entry requirements, Computer Engineering can be lower because it's more hands-on and practical, whereas Computer Science often requires a stronger foundation in theory and maths, which can make it a bit more demanding.

so would employers choose a computer sceince degree over a computer engineering degree because I do like the sound of actually doing some physical hands on work

Not necessarily! Employers value both degrees, but the preference depends on the job role. Computer Science graduates are often sought for roles in software development, AI, or data science, where coding and algorithms are key. Computer Engineering graduates, on the other hand, are ideal for roles involving hardware-software integration, embedded systems, or IoT.
If you enjoy hands-on work, Computer Engineering might be a better fit for your interests. The important thing is to choose a path you’re passionate about, as skills and enthusiasm often matter more to employers than the specific degree.

Hi @sound-nod

I think @iseasy83 has done a great job of answering your questions for you, I just wanted to add in here that we have a really helpful study guide for Computer Science which mentions why you might study this subject, where it can take you, what CS courses normally cover and salary ranges etc. Just another resource for you to look into and see if CS is for you. You can find it here.
