Do I need to study Pure 2 content?

Hi everyone!

I'm currently preparing for my A-Level exams, and I'm following a non-standard pathway. Specifically, I’m only sitting for the following papers:

Paper 1 (Pure 1)
Paper 3 (Pure 3)
Paper 4 (Mechanics)
Paper 5 (Probability & Statistics 1)
That means I am not taking the Pure 2 paper.

I wanted to check with others who may have taken this non-standard route: Do I still need to study Pure 2 content? I’m aware that there may be some overlap between Pure 1, 2, and 3, but I’m not sure if any key topics from Pure 2 are crucial for the Pure 3 paper or the other subjects I’m studying.

If anyone has experience or insight on this, I’d really appreciate your advice!

Thanks in advance!

Hii, I want to ask you first, are you using the CIE board or not? I'm currently doing CIE, so my advice is specifically for CIE since I don't know anything about other boards. In my knowledge, Pure 3 is just an extended Pure 2. I checked the syllabus and Pure 3 is Pure 2 with the addition of vectors, differential equations, and complex numbers. And the topics that are in Pure 2 are also discussed in more depths in Pure 3. In short, yes you do need to study Pure 2 if you're doing Pure 3. Hope that helps xx

If you don't mind me asking, what other subjects are you taking? thankss

ohhh those are hard subjects. I was going to do Maths, Psychology, and Law (all CIE) but decided to drop Law cause I felt like it was too hard for me. Good luck on your studies then
