Financing for foundation year which is separate from degree

Hello, I'd like to enquire about entering university in the 2025/26 period, where I may do a foundation year.

Getting above 70% will allow me to progress to a 5 years integrated masters (with placement) while getting below may mean I'd have to progress to a 4 year BEng (with placement).

How will this be funded as it's not guaranteed that I will get above 70% to enter the integrated masters course?

This foundation year does not appear to be integrated. I have put the link to the specific course.
Thank you.

Additional information:
This link is an integrated foundation year but I do not wish to do this course as it is not an MEng. This would mean that the course I do want to do is not integrated.

Hi there. We cannot click on links here, sorry.

Are you able to confirm the full name of the course and university? How many years in total and if full time or part time?

Thanks, Leah.
Full time education.
University of Bradford

(H101) Engineering Foundation Year
1 Year
+
(H291) Civil and Structural Engineering
MEng (Hons)
5 Years (4 years + 1 placement year)

Thank you for replying.
Thanks. Just to confirm, do you have any previous study? Thanks, Leah.
No, I will be entering university for the first time after my A-Levels have been completed. Thanks.
Thanks. You would get funding for both of these courses (providing you meet eligibility). However, as the foundation year is classed as a separate course, please note that this would be included in your previous study calculation when moving onto the MEng.

Student Finance uses this calculation to work out how much funding you have left:

New course length + Additional Year Previous study years

For example, your new course is 5 years long, your calculation would be:

5 + 1 1 = 5 years entitlement

So, when moving to the MEng, you would have enough Tuition Fee to fund the course, but you would lose the additional year we normally give for repeats, since the foundation year isn't integrated.

Thanks, Leah.

How would applying for student finance work?

What would I write down for the course that I will be studying since the foundation year separate?

I assume I'd have to reapply at the end of the foundation year?

Thank you so much for all your help.

Hi Yousaf,

When you apply you would just apply for the foundation year. The next year you would then reapply for the next course on your online account. You will need to apply every year that you study.

Thanks, Drew
