Adder, Vipera berus, when I was quite young. Grandfather got it out in the coal scuttle. Not a particularly venomous snake as they go but the bite is apparently unpleasant and has been fatal for small children in the past.

bird. flew in while the window was wide open.... a few hours later we thought it had gone. month later we discovered the dead decomposting body when spring cleaning the room...

One time a bat flew into my living room, and it was total chaos. I grabbed a towel and tried to guide it out, but it just kept swooping around like it had no intention of leaving. I was half-panicked but also kind of impressed at how fast it could move.

The bat was flapping wildly all around the room till it has found the gap in the window and escaped. Very annoying at night.
