Failing a placement module

Hi everyone

I am currently in year 3 second semester and need to complete a placement which due to my health issues I am unable to complete.

So 50% are the placement hours ( which I ve done as much as I could ) and 50% are the assessments which are already hand in for this semester.

My question is...a failed module would mean my last year failed completely?

Also is SFE going to ask for the money back due to this ?

Any advice and help would be highly appreciated.

Hi!

Firstly, I’m sorry to hear about the challenges you’re facing right now - dealing with health issues while navigating university can be incredibly tough. At the University of Salford, we have personal tutors and a dedicated wellbeing and counselling service to support students through situations like this. Your university likely offers something similar, so I’d strongly recommend reaching out to your personal tutor or the student support team. They can help clarify the academic implications of your situation and guide you on the best next steps.

Regarding your module and whether failing it impacts your final year overall, this can depend on your university's policies. Your personal tutor or course leader would be the best person to explain what happens next, such as whether you can retake or carry credits forward. Universities are often understanding when health issues are involved, so it’s worth exploring options like mitigating circumstances or extensions if you haven’t already done so.

As for your concerns about Student Finance England, they usually don’t ask for repayment while you’re still studying. However, if you’re worried about how your situation might affect your funding, contacting SFE directly would be the best course of action. They can provide tailored advice based on your circumstances and explain any implications for your loans.

Finally, don’t hesitate to lean on your university’s wellbeing services - they can offer emotional support and help you navigate this tough time. Take care of yourself, and I hope everything works out for the best! 😊

Best of luck!
