Relevant work experience/ Programmes for a Year 13 student

I just want to ask if there are work experience or programmes for year 13 that is psychology based? I would prefer if it done via online platform. I want to apply because I want to gain more insights into what careers are in psychology and to develop my skills that will be essential to the course.

Hi there,

Amy from Cardiff Uni here!

Although I'm not sure of any specific work experience programmes for Year 13 students, I can definitely give you some ideas (as a current MSc Children's Psychological Disorders student!):

Ad hoc teaching assistant work- many agencies advertise across the year, and may be open to year 13 students if you shoot them an email! I did a bit of agency TA work in special educational needs (SEN) classrooms in my final year of my undergrad, and found that it gave me such valuable experience.

Online/ in-person tutor for GCSEs- many online tutoring platforms take on A-Level students to help tutor KS2, KS3 and GCSE students. Although this isn't explicitly Psychology-related, it really demonstrates communication, leadership and confidence skills, which are crucial for later Psychological jobs!

Any volunteering role with certain populations, e.g. with children or the elderly. This really demonstrates ability to tailor your communication style to certain needs.

Do you have any questions regarding applying to University? If so, let me know!🥰

Good luck with finding work experience!

You're unlikely to get psychology specific work experience due to the confidential nature of most of the work, but you may be able to talk to people doing the role to find out more. Some organisations may even do webinars
