Needs Assessment

Hi everyone,
I recently had my DSA needs assessment, and I’m feeling a bit anxious about whether the recommendations will be approved. I have ADHD and dyslexia, and during the assessment, we discussed tools like a Remarkable tablet, a laptop, assistive software, noise-cancelling headphones, and in-person support to help with my studies.
The assessor seemed confident about the recommendations, but I’ve seen some posts saying that tablets don’t always get approved, so I’m a bit worried. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How likely is it that these recommendations will be approved?

Any advice or reassurance would be much appreciated while I wait—thanks!

No one will be able to say other than the assessors, try not to worry and just be patient.

A tablet is very unlikely to be approved for Dyslexia and ADHD, this is from the DSA guidance:

DSA funding is not generally available for tablet devices. Where devices such as tablets are
essential to meet the specific needs of the student, DSA funding will be provided. However,
it is expected that a standard computer will provide the increased processing power with
which to operate the full range of assistive software, compared to devices such as tablets.
Therefore it is expected that a standard computer will be the most appropriate provision for
the student should they require this software, unless their specific needs mean that excep-
tionally additional devices are required to support their study.

Hi! I know this post is quite old but I might have the same need for a tablet as you and was wondering is they gave it to you in the end?

Wow, that sort of assumes that everyone is creating work the same way. I'll be sketching not typing. My brain needs non-linear creation not text capture. I hope they provide things that actually fit the course, not their idea of what a student 'does'.
