CS and EE at University Of Glasgow vs University Of Strathclyde

Basically I'm doing my Highers in S5 this year and I got a conditional offer from Strathclyde for Computer and Electronic systems and I also applied for Electronic and Software engineering at Uni Of Glasgow, Hopefully when I get an offer from Glasgow I'll have to pick and I'm having a hard time with that. I've been to both open days and I'm really finding it hard to decide which is better. For context I don't care about nightlife/socialising I just want the best academic experience. I'm also doing uni of glasgow top up course so I got an idea of how they teach. I really like both campuses and Strathclyde seems to be really good for EE but at the same time Glasgow seems to have a higher reputation especially amongst international ranks however I heard that people at glasgow can be a bit stuck up/rich kid poshy no offence though. Anyone who has experience from these unis with similar courses I'd really appreciate any advice and your personal recommendations.
Hi there, in all honesty, you might think you don’t care about socialising at this point in time in your life, but if all you care about is academics and work, in the long run you won’t be happy. I know this won’t be the answer you’re looking for, but part of the reason to go to university is for the social aspect. Anyways, here’s a comparison:
University of Glasgow

Computer Science:

Programs: BSc/MSci/MA in Computing Science

Research Impact: High

Ranking: Among top in the UK

Specializations: Programming, software engineering, AI, big data systems

Accreditation: Professionally accredited

Electrical Engineering:

Programs: BEng/MEng in Electronic & Electrical Engineering

Research Excellence: High

Ranking: Top in Scotland

Specializations: Clean energy, cybersecurity, 5G communications

Accreditation: Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET)

University of Strathclyde

Computer Science:

Programs: BSc/MSc in Computing Science

Research Excellence: High

Ranking: Top in Scotland

Specializations: Data science, AI programming, big data analytics

Accreditation: Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET)

Electrical Engineering:

Programs: BEng/MEng in Electronic & Electrical Engineering

Research Excellence: High

Ranking: Among top in the UK

Specializations: Clean energy, smart grids, robotics

Accreditation: Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET)

Both universities offer strong programs with a focus on research excellence and industry relevance. I’m not entirely sure you’ll come across someone who has experience of both courses / unis so it’s always going to be a bit tricky. Good luck!

You don't need to go clubbing or go to parties to have a good social life. Introverts (or people who just dislike parties), can and do have a great time at uni.

Hey @randInt47 🙂 Really pleased you're considering studying with us! It's a big choice to make but you still have lots of time to decide so don't worry. You'll be invited back to campus as an offer holder in the Spring, and hopefully if you're able to visit both campuses again you'll get a good feel for them.

Often at offer holder days we'll give you the opportunity to meet with students if you've not been able to find anyone on TSR to chat about the academic experience. Another thing you could try is going in to our applicant threads from last year (2024 entry) and you might find a few students who started in their first year who'd chat to you about how they're finding it? Unibuddy is also a really great tool for connecting with students too.

Hopefully you'll hear back from the rest of your offers soon, and you can keep researching to find the best fit for you 🙂 If there's anything specific about Strathclyde I can help with let me know. We have an email address which you can use to reach out to students at [email protected] if that helps too! 📧

Good luck!
