a level choices

hey everyone! i’m currently in the process of picking my a-levels. my current dream job is a nurse!

i was heavily debating what to do for a few weeks but i think i’ve finally come to an answer (this may change later on, but for now im pretty set on this)

(i also did heavily consider doing IB, but now i think i will most likely do a levels)

i am thinking:

biology - definitely doing this. i really enjoy this subject and find it extremely interesting. also necessary to do a nursing degree. haven’t got my mock grade back yet but hoping it’s good 🤞slightly scared as i have seen things saying it involves a lot of maths which is not my forte, but i am set on doing it regardless.

french - i absolutely adore french, definitely want to do this. also haven’t got my mock results for french back yet, but i am expecting very high. a level french also seems very interesting as you get to study films and books (very happy about this as i love reading/literature but am not planning on doing english a level) i know universities heavily value languages as well which i am glad about bcs they are definitely my passion

politics - only recently decided i want to do this. i think i will enjoy this subject as i am interested in politics. i am fairly well educated on politics already thanks to my dad, and when looking at the spec it looked very interesting. when i looked at a-level papers i discovered they are a LOT of writing, however i think i will be able to handle this as i take essay subjects at gcse and am quite skillfull in writing . i haven’t looked into it much but i assume unis do like politics as a subject?

these are the subjects i am currently planning on taking! can anyone advise if these are good for nursing? from looking at uni requirements, the most i have seen them ask for is biology/any science. i know chemistry would potentially help, however i strongly dislike chemistry and don’t think i would be able to get a good enough grade!
As long as you satisfy the entry requirements for nursing degrees, these sound like fantastic options! Also very diverse for a range of fields in case you have a change of heart. My cousin who did nursing did double health and social care and sociology for her a levels so a range of combinations can work! I currently do a level biology btw so if you have any questions id be happy to try and answer them 🙂

Hi
That's wonderful news that you want to become a nurse.

First thing is look at your chosen universities website for there entry requirements for nursing courses as each individual university has there own requirements.

Some universities will probably ask you for math's, English and a science subject, then you'll have those universities who'll ask for English, maths and chemistry or biology as entry requirements, then you'll have some not asking for any science subjects so it is sometimes best to inquire about this. So doing biology will definitely be fine along with your English and maths and anything else after that is okay.
