Uni of Strathclyde

I would love to study Politics, International Relations and Spanish at the University of Strathclyde in 2025.

I’m a Scottish student and achieved AAAB in S5 and currently studying 3 further highers & 1 advanced higher in S6. A’s obtained in English, Modern Studies & Spanish & B in French.

What is the realistic chance of an offer? given I did not get AAAA in S5. Have previous years offered based on these grades?

Anything else I can do to improve my chances of an offer?

Hey Anon! I'm not able to say whether or not you'll receive an offer, as applications are considered by the Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS) admissions team and can be quite competitive. You're applying with strong grades from S5 though, and are in a good position 🙂 The course you're applying for is quite competitive, and your whole application will be considered - including your personal statement and current study in S6 to help the admissions teams make decisions. If you've not applied yet I'd say this is something to pay attention to - making sure the statement is well written and shows off your skills and interest in the subjects areas you're applying to.

If you've already applied and are waiting for a decision - until you hear otherwise you're still being considered for the course 🤗 If we are able to make a conditional offer it will likely be for you to achieve AAAAB altogether by the end of S6.

Hope that helps a bit! Good luck with your application 🤞If you have any more specific admissions queries you can get in touch with the HASS admissions teams at [email protected].

Do you guys consider those who have done national 5s with higher predicted grades?

Hi @sophiaallan2 🙂 Are you applying in S5, and are you also applying to the BA Humanities and Social Sciences course as above? That particular degree structure can be quite competitive so normally we'd prefer to see applicants applying from S6 with achieved grades from S5. We can still consider you for a place - but we may not be able to make an offer given the volume of applications we receive. We'd take your overall application in to consideration before considering a conditional offer.

Hi @sophiaallan2 🙂 Thanks for replying! The same advice as above applies to the Business courses, as they are also very competitive. We will be able to consider your application but we receive lots of applications every year and unfortunately can't make offers to everyone. They'll look at your whole UCAS form, including things like the personal statement when making decisions.

Good luck 🤞 Let me know when you hear back on your UCAS!
