Should I apply for a foundation year along with applying for the normal course?

I'm applying to Manchester Metropolitan University for Electrical and Electronic engineering and since I have a free slot on my UCAS I'm wondering if it's a good idea to also apply for the course with a foundation year in case my grades drop. Keep in mind the other universities I'm applying to have a similar entry requirement as MMU. I also don't want the university to view my negatively because of it since it might seem I doubt my abilities or something. I also don't want to cause myself to start slacking either and ending up on the foundation year if I know I have that option since I might become lazy if things get tough close to exam time.

I want to play it safe but I don't want the uni to think I'm an idiot or cause myself to become lazy, so it it worth applying for the foundation year as well or not?

Tbh I'm sure that as a worst case scenario I could go through clearing IF my grades were to drop and I needed a foundation year.

It’s probably not worth it.

Ring MMU and ask whether they would automatically switch you to a foundation entry if you don’t get the grades.

You don’t need to use all 5 choices now, you can leave one empty and either add it later or just don’t use it.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve emailed them just now.

Same as above, you would automatically be considered for a foundation year if you do not meet the requirements for the degree. - JD

I don't think you should speak on behalf of MMU

MMU replied and said that if I am 1 or 2 grades below my offer then they could potentially consider me for the foundation year.

as always best to contact MMU directly for further guidance as all Universities differ. - JD

But only at Christ Church - this will not apply at all other Unis.
