Changing from 3 year to 4 year course with a placement

Pretty naively I thought that this was something you decided once at your university. However I’ve already applied and noticed that you have to apply for the 4 year course with a placement. It seems most universities will allow you to change pretty easily. I would just like some advice on when the best time to do this would be. Thank you.

It is great to hear that you are thinking about doing a placement year, it can be such a great opportunity! Most universities, like you say, will allow you to transfer very easily. I am currently searching for my placement year, and transferring into the 4 years was very easy!

My advice would be to check with your university early, as all uni's will differ. The sooner you ask, the better! Contact your course department of academic tutor as some institutions may have specific deadlines or processes for transferring to a placement year. I would suggest asking how and when you can transfer. Most uni's will allow you to switch before or during the second year as placements typically take place between the second and final year of your studies.

This way, you will be very prepared for your placement year. This will give you more time to prepare for applying to placements.

Contact the Unis now - you may be able to switch to a placement course now, or many Unis will have a 'common first year' of teaching and its still possible to make the switch at the ned of this but every Uni is different. Just email them now and ask what the process is.
