Obviously try and get the relevant work experience inside a hospital or GP etc. and try and get medical related volunteering in a care home or with a st johns ambulance equivalent.
As for extracurriculars, try and do something that is a leadership/teamwork role, as in play for a local sports team and then you can speak about that in your personal statement and interviews if asked. You could also think about joining/starting a medicine club at your school where you get all the prospective applicants for whatever year and discuss current medical issues. Would also be a good thing to speak about in interviews and personal statements.
What year are you in at school right now?

Hey!

This is such a great question!

I tried to make sure I had a range of work experience for when I started. During college, I volunteered at a hospice one morning a week and this helped me to see a side of medicine that people don't often. I also did a week of shadowing in a hospital so I could see what the life of a doctor was actually like.
I also worked part time as a waitress and this is good experience for dealing with difficult customers and has lots of transferrable skills!

I hope this helps,
-Rebecca, UCLan
