Sign-up pop-up

I only logged in to say this. It's been years since I've used TSR, even though it would be very useful and comes up in my Google searches a lot, specifically because I refuse to give into the mandatory sign-in/up. I think it's a ridiculous, almost disrespectful demand and invasion of privacy for someone who's spending a total of 30" looking at an answer. There are already tons of people who contribute to this site very generously and whose goodwill you're spoiling with your greediness. Not to mention, you're catering to students, most/many of them minors with even more of a right to privacy and open access. Please reconsider your approach and incentivise accounts in a different way, if nothing else it's desperate.

Thank you for taking the time to log in and give this feedback. Other long term users have said similar things about the sign up pop-up, so you aren't the only one to feel this way. I will pass this feedback to our product team, who closely monitor the mandatory sign up process and how guests use the site generally.

Yes I made a thread on how invasive the pop-up can be, it’s not good, and I certainly wouldn’t have bothered to sign up had I been presented with it, I would have simply gone through hoops to get rid of it or I would have just ditched this website.

There needs to be an X button at least. But it looks like this is expected behaviour:
