Design engineering..?

Hi,

So I want to apply to design engineering at Imperial. They've specified that entry requirements: A*AA (A* in maths) and then there's a bit that says "Both scientific and non-scientific A-levels are welcomed." Shall I take that literally, as in they'd accept any subject as long as they're AA?? Idk cuz it's imperial and the course is bound to be competitive +it's engineering, so when it comes down to giving out offers, I feel like I might be at a disadvantage for not studying traditional engineering subjects like physics / computer science / further maths. Idk how admissions work, but if they had to choose who NOT to give an offer to, out of all the comp sci, fm and physics students +international students, it might be me........

Hi, I just wanted to ask if you did your ESAT and if so, how did you feel about it? I’m applying design engineering at imperial as well and I feel like I could have done a lot a lot better

I'm sitting it in January, but I don't think I'll do that well anyways. What subjects do you study??

Math dt physics fm 2A* and 2A respectively, I don’t actually think I have a chance anymore cause of ESAT

Don't worry about ESAT - it's the first year anyways and ik someone who asked about it on open day. They said they won't put that much weight on ESAT this year. And you have a better chance than I do anyways. Just don't worry you've still got 4other options

Ian just hoping and praying that is actually the case, because ESAT and the aftermath of it really took a huge toll of me

stay positive!!!!

but do you think i should still apply for design engineering with maths, bio, geo. Do you know anyone applying WITHOUT physics/ computer science/ fm😭😭 I really regret my subject choices but tbh even if I were to repeat my a levels I would take the same combo....what do I doooo

when i went to the open day, i asked about subjects and i know someone there got in without physics, they said she did struggle with the mechanics modules/physics they learnt etc

but go for it!!! if you have a strong personal statement + good predicted grades you might as well give it a shot❤️❤️❤️

Thank youuu. I enjoy mechanics in maths, so I guess that's a pro. I just don't know how I should write my personal statement tho??? like shall I focus on maths mainly?? Or shall I focus on my creative projects more???

I'm assuming you're applying / have applied to design engineering?? Any tips if you don't mind sharing )

omg im so sorry it took me so long to respond, i didn’t see this. i am hoping to apply for des eng in the coming year, so i am most likely as not as much help as some; however, my dt portfolio client is a second year des eng student, and i have quizzed him endlessly. i know he did a good mix, he read a book about quantum physics and lego, did quite a few projects concerning arduinos, and he didn’t have much maths in there, but i believe it was more of an even split. try to find things a bit outside of the box, not just in the given reading lists, BE QUIRKY XXX but yes, personal passion projects concerning electronics, would be good imo. my teachers have told me to solve problems i see around me, for the portfolio, for example i am making a latch on for my dresser, to display my ornaments securely, so they won’t fall when i open my draws. BUT YES, i hope this mildly helps??? good luck!!!
