IMU PMS

Good morning,
I will be joining in IMU in 2025.
I am confused if to choose PMS or local MBBS programme.
If I choose PMS programme, will there be any gap in the course until we get a seat in Partner Mediacl University?
Also am worried if the seat is guaranteed in PMS programme?

Is doing Mbbs Locally in Malaysia Good or any drawbacks?
Kindly advice

Hello there!

To start off, it all depends on where you would like to practice medicine. Certain countries (e.g. Singapore), only allow graduates from approved institutions to practice in their hospitals. Hence, if the MBBS from IMU is not recognised by the country, it would be wiser to go for the PMS programme where you can pick a recognised partner university and graduate with their medical degree.

I won't be able to answer your question on the presence of a gap, hope someone will be able to help you with it!

To answer your query on guarantee of seats, all PMS students will be guarateed a place in a partner medical university to moment you have enrolled. This is based on what I have read on other forums. However, the university that you will be allocated depends on your academic performance during your first 2.5 years at IMU.

As for any advantages or disadvantages in doing MBBS locally or abroad, I would say both sides have their pros and cons. If you want to practice in Malaysia, then doing MBBS locally will expose you to the local culture earlier and help you with acquiring local contacts/connections in hospitals. This can be useful, especially for medicine where things can get very competitive. Being familiar with the environment + knowing "important" people might give you a headstart. For the PMS route, students will be exposed to different hospital culture which can be an advantage since certain countries (e.g. UK) are leaders in the medical industry. Of course there's also the difference in costs and student life etc., but that's beyond the scope of professional development. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide which pathway is more suitable for your development to become a "better" doctor for your patients.

Hi I wish to enroll at IMU for the PMS program as well for 2025... I have just finished my IB this year, so may I know when I need to apply for the university? Is the deadline passed already?
