HELP Southampton or Leeds?( Neuroscience)

Hi guys, I’m currently finalizing my choices, and I’m at a position where I can either apply for Leeds or Southampton (this is my aspirational choice). My predicted grades are ABB with an A in my EPQ, and both these universities have an AAB requirement, but an A in the EPQ drops it down by one letter grade. Both universities have very similar QS rankings. I want to know which university is better or more likely to accept me.

P.S. My personal statement is more well-rounded rather than just focused on neuroscience, as I’ve talked about doing things like art for 7 years, volunteering, debates, MUNs, and DofE, along with science-related activities.

(most of my friends, career councilor and the internet is divided on this)

what sort of city environment would you prefer? The place you're most likely to be happy is probably the best bet.

Alternatively you could have 2 aspirational choices - especially because it sounds like you meet their requirements so neither is particularly aspirational.

tysm for the replyyy!! But to ME things like city life, party culture or accomodation doesn't matter much to me.

Im actually applying to the uk as a safety so i want to just apply wherever my chances of getting accepted into is the highest.

Which course do you prefer - look at the optional units for all years of each course and think abut what you would choose if you went there.

Also, does either course offer any sort of work placement, or study abroad - these add enormously to your graduate CV.

Finally - if you have not been to either Open Day, look at the campus tours and 'city tourist' films for each on YouTube and think about the reality of studying / living in each place.

if it's your safety choice then why did you say it was your aspirational choice?

And if you're spending 3 years in a city then what you do in your free time and where you live is likely to be quite important. Are you used to a big city? Do you like spending time outdoors? What hobbies do you have? Do you like to attend concerts/cinema/comedy nights? Do you like art galleries and museums? Do you want to visit other parts of the UK? Do you mind a long commute from halls to campus?

FWIW your PS sounds quite weak if it's focusing on extra curriculars instead of super curriculars.
Both courses make offers to the vast majority of applicants so it seems likely that as long as you meet subject requirements you'll get an offer - which is why I said to put both. They're not that much of a stretch and both seem likely to accept lower grades.

Apologies for the confusion!

I meant that all the universities in the UK are my safety options, as I’m mainly applying to Australia and New Zealand. These UK applications are just in case I change my mind or don’t get into my preferred universities elsewhere (+ parents). To clarify, I’m from a big city, enjoy artsy hobbies, love socializing, and don’t mind walking.

My personal statement also has medical internship at a hospital, a psychology internship at a college, and my EPQ on Brain Computer Interfaces.
