Hi @Student6789067,

While I don't study at the Penryn Campus myself, I've heard it's a friendly and vibrant place with plenty of activities to engage in, so there's no need to worry about any of this! Here is a bit of information about what I do know:

Social Life and Nightlife:
The Penryn Campus has a lively social scene. The Stannary Bar is located on campus and serves as a central hub for student activities, hosting regular events such as quiz nights, open mic sessions, and live sports screenings. Falmouth offers a diverse nightlife with pubs, bars, and live music venues.

Safety and Security:
It's known to be a very safe environment. The Safety and Support Team is available 24/7, 365 days a year, across both Penryn and Falmouth campuses. They are committed to maintaining a secure environment, offering services such as emergency contact and response, crime prevention, personal security, event security, and CCTV monitoring. All officers are trained in first aid and mental health first aid, so you're always well-supported.

The campus also uses the SafeZone app, which allows students to quickly contact the security team and access assistance when needed, so you can always contact someone whenever you need!

Overall, the Penryn Campus offers a welcoming community with a vibrant social scene and lots of safety measures so you can relax and enjoy your university experience to the max!

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Students6789067

I thought I'd answer your question as a current PhD student based at the Penryn Campus. I also completed my Masters and undergraduate degrees here so have seen the campus really grow and develop over the best part of the last decade.

The Penryn Campus is slightly smaller than our other Exeter campuses, and hosts around ~6000 students together between Exeter and Falmouth university. If you aren't aware, we're in a unique position of sharing the campus between two institutions - Falmouth, a specialist arts institution, and Exeter. That means there is a much more diverse mix of students around the campus, and the Falmouth students especially add a lot of creative buzz to the campus and town - there are lots of student film screenings, art galleries, or bands and DJ sets as a result of their courses.

Being slightly smaller also helps with a community feeling both on campus and in town. It's really easy to get to know a lot of your course mates and house mates very quickly, and a lot of the main bars and clubs in town are centered along one main road (Church Street). This means that whether walking to lectures or through town you'll be constantly bumping into familiar places and with people you know. I really liked this as it helped me feel at home and settle much quicker than if I'd been at a larger institution and a bit more worried about being 'lost in the crowd'. Everyone tends to look out for one another and over almost 10 years studying here I've never had any issues with security or safety. As Sophie mentioned in her reply, we use the SafeZone app on campus and the security team are really friendly but also efficient and effective at their jobs.

Penryn and Falmouth has a real mix of nightlife for an area of its size, from clubs like Club I and Mangos, to cocktail bars like Chintz and Cribbs, old pubs like The Front and Chainlocker and music venues like The Cornish Bank and Underland. There really is something for everyone, including two cinemas in the Poly and Phoenix.

If you have any more questions about social life in Penryn I'd be really happy to answer them.

The night life is a very small-town vibe, only a few decent clubs and not a mega great nightlife as a whole. However, having grown up here myself, newcomers find it exciting purely because it's a new place to be, but if you're looking for a uni with a "good" nightlife then it's not ideal personally, however others find it great so its really what you make of it. The actual campus is pretty and so is the Penryn/Falmouth area, it's quite expensive though and you do have to take into consideration the possibility of having to have a shared room accommodation, which has put others off in the past. Be weary that because of how small and close-knit the community is of people that actually live in Falmouth full time, the people living there often don't appreciate certain screaming, drunken students across the town at 3am, but just generally have respect for the locals/ area as a whole, and you'll be fine. Overall vibe is a lot of the people there are very "artsy", 99% of people are lovely, but there's a very I think self proclaimed "edgy" vibe that really is not how it's viewed by people who aren't students 😭 However it's a lovely place to live if you like the beach and countryside, in fact you have to love the beach and countryside to come here because there's not much else in Cornwall other than that 😭
