I did my in-person ID verification a week ago.

Good to know, how long did you had to wait for your face to face meeting?
I’m asking because, I called the council requesting my last council tax statement to be sent by post and they told me between 5 to 10 working days.

Everything was done remotely and electronically for me. Not sure why it takes so long for you guys, or if things change the past month on how they process everything...

After I received the email that they would need additional ID and that they would contact me, they didn’t contact me for two weeks after that so I sent an email asking when I should expect them to contact me. They replied to that email in 2 days. And then 5 days later I received a call from them to schedule a meeting to verify my ID. Meeting was set to 5 days after the call.

Thanks for letting me know! I’ll wait two weeks as well, and if I don’t hear back, I’ll send them a follow-up email too. Thank you Trish.

Yeah, maybe they’ve updated the process recently! Or it could be that people who live closer are asked to come in for face-to-face checks. It’s a bit confusing… hopefully we’ll all hear back soon!

Has anyone had a face-to-face meeting for an ID check at the Stratford office, but have now been told that some of their ID there wasn’t accepted?

I got an email like that on Friday, saying that my DBS check wasn’t valid and I have 7 working days to submit my evidence or else my application may be delayed or withdrawn. I have just completed a new DBS check claim. The issue is, i don’t know who to submit it to. I am assuming just to take pictures of my new DBS certificate (which may take up to 10 working days to receive) and of a stamped Bank Statement, then attach it to a email replying to theirs. The other issue is that they haven’t responded to my emails since Friday, so I am getting worried about how/where/when I should provide evidence.

Lastly, I’m hoping my application isn’t withdrawn because I had no idea my ID wasn’t sufficient, in fact I was told during the face to face meeting at the Stratford office that there should be no problems with my ID and the DBS check needed to be within 3 years (which my old one was). Is anyone is in the same boat as me, or has any advice on what might happen?

Hi! I also received an email and I’m currently waiting for a face-to-face meeting to provide my ID. I wasn’t aware that we needed to bring our DBS certificate as well. Did your email specifically mention that, or was it more general about submitting valid ID/evidence?

Just to add I double-checked and my email didn’t mention bringing a DBS certificate, only “DBS supporting documents” like ID and proof of address from the guidance list.
If you’re still unsure, you could try contacting the HMRC recruitment team directly at [email protected] they might be able to clarify things for you.

I submitted my documents today for the ID check, but my DBS certificate was not included. I submitted nearly nine documents in total. I was informed that there are upcoming batches on May 7th, 19th, 29th. I assume these are start dates for different groups of new starters. As far as I’m aware, the DBS certificate wasn’t listed among the documents we were asked o submit, but I’m happy to be corrected if that’s not the case.

Hi guys, I received an email yesterday from the Recruitment team, so I finally have some more clarity.

@Naomistephens
I went to the face-to-face ID check at the Stratford HMRC office on Wed 23rd April (just over a week ago now). I was given a call by someone from HMRC (not their Recruitment team) on Wed 16th April about it and given some guidance on what I would need. It was in that conversation that I was told I need to submit a DBS Certificate issued in the last 3 years. I think it was a rare case because I have neither a drivers licence or a provisional. I then received an email on Thurs 17th April from the same person confirming details of the ID check visit, and what I would need. They stated:

1 x Right to Work document from Group 1 - Passport requires manual verification
1 x Proof of Address document from Group 2a or 2b - Mortgage/Bank Statement, Utility Bill, Council Tax Statement etc
1 x DBS supporting document from Group 1, Group 2a or 2b

@AnaL13 @Larbinchi
I think where I got confused was in how I read "DBS supporting document". I think it's just a document that can help them do a DBS check, rather than a DBS certificate itself.

This is why, after my face-to-face meeting (at which I was told that my provided ID was sufficient, confusingly), I received an email on Fri 25th April stating that my passport was accepted, but my DBS certificate was not, and my payslip was an online document so also not acceptable (that one is on me, I should've known online documents weren't okay). They told me to provide a Proof of Address and a "Supporting Document" and that I had 7 days to submit the documents to "avoid delays and possible withdrawal from the position" which scared me a bit, and I'm honestly still really worried about. I did however submit a Birth Certificate during the face-to-face meeting that they made no mention of in the email, so I emailed them back about that, as well as asking on some clarity on what to specifically provide and how.

Good news! The response back did clarify a few things. They confirmed that a DBS certificate is definitely not accepted as ID, nor are payslips. Just a shame I paid for a DBS check this week that I don't need. They said that they have now attached my Birth Certificate to my application. Also, they have asked me to email them my stamped Bank Statement (I've scanned it and will send them it as a PDF today).

Only confusing thing is that they've said they will accept a P45 or P60 "with regards to a National Insurance Number". Now I don't know why I will need to do that, when my Passport, Birth Certificate and Bank Statement will all be provided. Surely that covers all the required ID? If anyone has any idea about that please let me know. I'm thinking that they just need one document with my NI number on it? I'm just worried it will take me some time to actually obtain a physical copy of a P45 or P60 from my last employer.

I paid for a DBS check that I didn't need because of the way it was explained to me. I even called back for clarification, but I received the same incorrect information. It wasn't until I emailed the UBS recruitment team that I learned I didn't need to pay for it, as they handle it automatically.
So don’t feel bad take comfort in knowing that you’re not the only one experiencing this.

hey my portal updated stating my identity has been completed so it should be quick now for the remainder

As they can't start the vetting process until I.D confirmation has been confirmed - this is what usually holds up the process.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience— About the P45/P60 and the National Insurance number, I believe they just need one official document that clearly shows your NI number to verify it. Even though your passport and bank statement confirm your identity and address, they still need something that links your NI number to you—like a P45, P60, or even an official letter from HMRC or the DWP.
I remember seeing that they accept a P45 or P60 from the last 12 months, so if you have either of those, it should be fine.
And if you have any letters from HMRC, DWP, or even your local council that mention your NI number, definitely bring those too—especially if you can’t get a physical P45 or P60 in time.
I think it will be enough.

Thanks Ana! You have been a great help (and this thread in general). Hopefully. For now, they haven't called me in for another face-to-face meeting, so I have sent them via email a scan of my stamped Bank Statement sheets covering the past 3 months, which is in addition to the Passport and Birth Certificate that I showed them physically during the in-person meeting. I also attached to that email an online copy of my P60, but let them know that I can collect a physical P60 on Tuesday and send a scan of that to them on Tuesday if need be (I cannot get a physical P60 from my last employer any sooner partially due to Bank Holiday weekend). I'm just hoping that in the off-chance my Tuesday email gets missed, or the separate email with an online P60 causing confusion, there isn't some sort of situation where I am considered to not have submitted all the required evidence within the timeframe given to me. I am hoping they understand I am simply submitting and preparing ID only in accordance with the information I am made aware of at any given time, rather than trying to delay the process carelessly.

Does anyone know the next thing after ID checks? From what I was told when I did mine. May 7th, 19th, and 29th are for different batches.

What is the assurance that the checks will be done before this date?
