Favourite Christmas Music

The radio whether it’s Classic FM or the BBC can be a bit repetitive at this time of year. The TV adverts are already tiresome.

I thought it might be a pleasant idea to share members’ favourite Christmas music to add some variety.

Mine are mostly religious:

There’s a beautiful story about the author of the last, Fra’ Henry Suso, “dancing with angels in the snow” from a priest I once knew but I suspect it’s a composite of two or three stories about him.

Why we associate Christmas quite so much with the Regency (we all know why the Victorians) I am not quite sure, but this is lovely:
This gets sung from Christmas to New Year, so I may as well put it in:

I like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (in particular the Pentatonix version).
Also: Hark the Herald Angels; Silent Night; O Little Town of Bethlehem; Good King Wenceslas; While Shepherd's Watched Their Flocks; A Partridge in a Pear Tree
In addition: Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone; Chris de Burgh - A Spaceman Came Travelling; Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas?; Boney M - Mary's Boy Child; and The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End).

These are top tier song choices. Good King Wenceslas is up there for me! On a more modern note I do love a bit of Michael Buble this time of year :bubbles:

Big fan of the Darke version of 'In the Bleak Midwinter' :yep: I'd never heard it until I went to uni :moon:

Not Today by BTS
People wouldn’t consider it a Christmas song but Christmas is not today, so…
Anyway my actual favourite Christmas music list is Joy To The World (Phil Wickham version), Carol Of The Bells, Winter Snow by Chris Tomlin and Audrey Assad, Christmas Love by Jimin of BTS, the songs from that Shrek Christmas short (I forgot its name)
