Because so many people have said the ESAT went awfully for them does this mean that unis like Cambridge and imperial are going to be giving interviews to anyone that has competitive a leve, PS and GCSE grades, regardless of whether they failed or barely passed the ESAT.

Of course not. People say it goes awful every year, this time isn't special.

no it means that they give interviews to ppl with a strong esat, although in this case, strong might be considered as lower ESAT grades. This is mainly because most people applying to cambridge have at least 2-3 A*s and a decent PS so the only thing setting people apart for interview invites is the ESAT.
Hello Harry! We met in Cambridge. How did you do? I got 7.0 in maths 1 7.7 in physics 8.9 in chem.
hi sturmanator 🙂 that's actually insane wtf?? welcome to cambridge lmao you beat literally everyone at my school as far as i know. i'm not gonna check my scores until after interview bc i'll either get too cocky or too defeatist, but it's still probably not as high as that; the best ppl at my school averaged 6.8 or something
I'm confused because my ESAT score is very low as in below a 4 but I have an interview so I don't understand whether or not they're giving the interview because they have to invite 75/80% of applicants to interview. Someone at my school with 4A* all 9s at GCSE and great PS + ref was rejected pre-interview because of their ESAT which was higher than mine so I'm trying to gauge whether it would be in my best interests to just decline the interview and avoid the stress of preparing for it if its just "protocol" to give a certain number out.

I think it is combination of interview, ESAT, PS & predicted grades so you may still have a chance

I’m the same - 3.8 average esat but I’ve been offered an interview for engineering. The admissions tutors have always said they wouldn’t give out an interview if you had 0 chance of getting in, so I’m still going for it and hoping I can do well.

Hey man, I respect that very highly you know. I’m sure you smashed them. Thanks for the encouragement too, I hope to see you there if we both get in!

They wouldn’t waste their time interviewing you if they did not think you had a chance.
Also, even if you don’t get in, it is a great learning experience, as you will have to get good at being interviewed eventually to get a grad job, and how many other 17 or 18 year olds have that experience.

Thank god it’s not me who did badly 🙏🙏 because on here I saw so many students with like score of ESAT of 7 and above which is crazy cause I found it crazy difficult!
