Drama School Finance Options

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help. My daughter is looking to apply to Drama School / university next year to do a BA (Hons) Musical Theatre at The Hammond, Guildford School of Acting, ArtsEd or Performance Preparation Academy. I had naively thought that she would be able to apply for Student Finance for the full tuition fee however now I have started to research it I don't think that is the case :-(

I have tried looking online and on each organisations website but the details seem very vague and I keep hitting brick wall. My worry is that my daughter gets a place somewhere that financially we can't afford if student finance isn't an option.

If anyone could help to shed any light on why some places only allow £6k a year, some none and hopefully some where she is able to apply for the full fee to be financed that would be great. Also any guidance on how I can tell which ones do allow full finance for the fees. Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Hi there,

Would this be a course in the 2025/26 academic year? I cannot find the Hammond or ArtsEd on our database. I found the Performance Preparation academy but we have no courses at this instate. There is courses at the Guildford School of Acting however the course for the 2025/26 academic year are not out yet however in the previous academic year there is no course called Musical Theatre. Is the course known by another name?

Thanks, Drew

Hi, Thanks for your message and help! Yes this would be a 25/26 academic year course. The course at GSA I think has always been BA (Hons) Musical Theatre (BA (Hons) Musical Theatre | GSA - Guildford School of Acting). The one at the Hammond is validated by the university of Chester so would it come up through them rather than under The Hammond? Many thanks Cheryl

Hi Cbrunton,

There is a course that is funded by SFE called 'Musical Theatre and Performance (HM)' at the University of Chester, could that be the course you are referring to?

Thanks, Clare

Thanks for your message Clare, yes that sounds like it could be the one. What does the (HM) refer to?

Hi there,

This is the course name the university have put on the database. You would need to check with them directly what it stands for.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi @Cbrunton

It's great to hear that your daughter is interested in Musical Theatre Performance based at The Hammond!

Hopefully Student Finance have been able to answer your question, however if you require further info please feel free to reach out to [email protected] to see if the team can provide some information specific to the course at the University of Chester/The Hammond.

Best wishes,
Becky
