Are you able to travel outisde of Lancaster often?

I've applied for Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, and I love both of them but I prefer the course on Lancaster a bit more. However, if I got the grades to go to Lancaster, I would also want to travel to Liverpool on day trips every now and then. Has anyone done it before and is it a quick affordable trip?
Hi @elusive1!

I've been on day trips to Liverpool and would say it's easy and affordable. I've got a railcard so there's a decent discount on trains. In first year, students typically live on campus in the university accommodations so there would be a bus to the train station, but bus rides are quite frequent and short (approx 20 mins). Some buses go direct, others to stops that are just a short walk away. Plus, Preston is maybe 20mins via train away and Preston connects with quite a few other places too (Manchester, Birmingham etc.) so it's easy to visit other cities too.

Overall yes, Liverpool is day-trip material, and you can always check train company websites (i.e. Avanti, Northern) or booking apps (i.e. Trainline) for specific times and prices for your preferences.

Hope this helped!

Hi @elusive1
Just to add to what Vicki has said, yes Liverpool is quite easy to do in a day trip from Lancaster and is a lovely city to explore on the weekend. Liverpool is about 1hr 30mins on the train from Lancaster, and costs about £14 for a day return on the train.
I'd also recommend Manchester, the Lake District and Blackpool for day trip ideas from Lancaster as these are all roughly an hour away from Lancaster by train and are quite affordable.
Hope this helps!

Hi @elusive1

Getting to liverpool by train is pretty easy. My parents live near liverpool so I made the journey pretty often. It’s about 1h30 and 2 trains so you’ll have to swap trains at Preston or Wigan North Western.

Hope that helps
