UoN or Warwick?

I am fortunate to have offers from my top 2 choices already; LLB at Nottingham and BA Law & Sociology at Warwick. Deciding between the two is tough and any help or insights would be appreciated.

My main concerns so far are;

•Warwick is 4 years compared to Notts’ 3, so another year of debt accumulated and maintenance needed. However my friends have pointed out another year of the so called best of my life can’t be that bad ( plus loan repayment isn’t a massive burden apparently? )

I do like Warwick’s campus a lot, but it’s in the middle of nowhere and I’m used to London so I don’t know. However Nottingham’s campus + city vibe is quite nice imo.

I do like to party quite a bit but I have heard Nottingham has a veryy heavy party culture, which may get a bit overwhelming sometimes.

Employability - apparently there isn’t a heap of difference between them but any further information would be very helpful. I have heard firms prefer some form of differentiation in your studies, so maybe Warwick’s sociology background will give me a more unique profile?

Warwick’s 1st and 2:1 rate is at 91% while Nottingham’s is at 84%. Also have heard Nottingham’s marking is harsher in some way? Any help on clearing this up would be amazing.

Nottingham is an additional hour away from home, so travelling to and fro for holidays or visits more tedious ( but probably my smallest concern so far. )

Bearing these in mind, what would anyone who has had to make similar decisions, or even alumni of these schools recommend? The only thing I am not sure about properly is the employability section - if there is a clear choice in that regards please let me know.

Hi @Bombatunde
Congratulations on receiving your offer to Nottingham to study Law!

In terms of the lengths of the course, doing 4 years at Nottingham is an option by doing a masters degree. I am not too sure whether the masters course is integrated onto the 3 years or not, you would need to contact the university to find out if that is a possibility. In terms of student loans, paying them back is dependent on the salary you make after University, but something to consider is that the cost of university may be increasing, and the length of time you would be required to pay it back will be extended.

Nottingham has the perfect balance in my opinion of quiet and busy living, and is completely dependent on what you choose to do.
You can go out every night of the week if you wish, as the city has clubs open every night, but also if you wanted to stay in, or join a society those are equally as easy to do. So I wouldn't worry about getting overwhelmed with the party culture, it is there for you if you want it or not. And the connections that Nottingham has to other cities around the UK is fantastic, with Birmingham, Leeds and London a direct train away.

I don't have any information regarding employability or average marks, but what I do know is that Nottingham university students are one of the most sought after students in the country after graduation, with 91.1% of our graduates in sustained employment or further study 3 and 5 years after graduation, making us number 1 in the Russell group universities.

In terms of travel, as mentioned previously, getting to London from Nottingham or vice versa, is easy, with direct trains. The extra hour of the commute can give you extra time to do work while travelling to and from home, my 4 and a half hour commute back home to Swansea gives me plenty of time to get on top of things!

Hope these help clear things up, and if you have any more questions, feel free to reply to this message!
Dom 🙂

I think notts - 3 years and slightly higher prestige for law specifically (overall Warwick is a better uni i believe) In your case though i’m not sure PPL is a qualified degree (you may have to still do GDL after but check i’m not too sure)

warwick is marginally higher on rankings, like 1 or 2 places BUT nottingham is a target univeristy for law, so if that’s something they wanna break into, it’s obvious
