ESAT Results

Hi,

I just got my ESAT results for Mech Eng at Imperial and Cambridge Eng. I got 7.6 in Maths 1 (top 7% of applicants). 6.4 in Maths 2 (top 15% of applicants and I ran out of time). And then 6.8 in Physics (top 10% of applicants). I already have A*A*A*A achieved in Maths, FM, Physics, DT respectively and have interview invites for both unis.

The question is amongst all the flexing is where you think my chances stand because I’ve been getting really insecure seeing some of the ppl I’m up against.

How did you find out your percentile?

There was a distribution curve on the main ESAT-TMUA page

That's incredible I imagine you're more likely to get an offer than most. I'm applying for chem eng and sadly the only part of the ESAT I did well in was chemistry with a 9.0, my math 1&2 scores are abysmal (3.5 & 5.5) and I only have 2A*s for A level. Declined my interview invite from Emma on Monday.

I got rejected from Cambridge last year afterinterview. Looking back even if I dont get in this yearits not a big deal. Ive spoken to a lot of people thatwent to cambridge both now and 20 years ago. Andwent to do 2 degrees at different unis. They all saidits just a degree and the only thing that matters isthat its accredited. Also if youre going to a worse uniyoull definitely be at the top of your class with a 9.0score in chemistry (walter white over here). At leastyou dont have to spend 4 years rocking back andforth in your room at night because of work overload.
That is a very good score. But considering how engineering is one of the most competitive courses in cambridge, your esat scores alone won't be enough to make you stand out. I guess it is really up to your interviews.

Don't feel too bad about it, a lot of us got butchered by that test. I'm not bad at maths or physics at all, usually the top amongst my friends and have really good predicted grades. However, the massive time constraints, the unexpected difficulty of the test and lack of good preparation materials left me flustered in the exam. I didn't even have time to get my bearings. I got absolutely terrible results, a 4.2 in Maths 1, a 1.0 in Maths 2 and a 4.5 in Physics, absolutely bottom of the barrel in Maths 2 you don't have to tell me twice. I hope the PAT test didn't go so badly, I felt that one went quite well, whereas I knew the ESAT went badly - the questions and time constraints were much better suited to my skillset. At this point though, I hold out very little hope.
